Hey Guys.

I thought I would share some Pix of my M.B.A. Noel Howard Indy Gear.

I purchased these items on June 18 2001 and spoke directly to Mr. Howard on the Phone and several E-Mails. A very, very Nice gentleman indeed.

These are my Raiders Shirt, Temple of Doom Shirt(dark buttons) and my Raiders Trousers. I have worn the trousers perhaps Twice(they are the most itchy pants I have ever worn!), My sympathys to Harrison Ford wearing these pants in the desert heat!

Also, I don't want to start any undue debates, but Mr. Howard told me that said shirts and trousers were exactly the same color and material that Harrison Ford wore in Raiders. Again, just passing on some info.

LOVE the color on the first shirt. Noel made great gear. I wore his Irish poplin tie to my first job interview way back in the day. :D :TOH:

Your Raiders shirt and ToD shirt seem to be the same color, but that color seems to be the Raiders "bone" color. Is that the camera talking or the actual color? Also, my MBA has epaulletes whose points stop at the inside edge of the front pleats. Yours on both extend about an inch over. Were yours bought that way or modified after purchase?

Thanks,

IndyFan71

Hey Indy Fan!
Both shirts are the same color, other than the darker buttons on the TOD Shirt. According to Mr. Howard, the real shirts that Ford wore in both movies were the same.
No the shirts as you see them are how I purchased them. I did no modifications.

Good gosh, I have reams of paperwork from M.B.A., all handwritten in (presumably) Mr. Howard's eloquent penmanship. Also have a nice collection of Christmas cards from Noel which I received for several years during and after my patronage. I practically bought everything from their Indy collection: shirts, trousers, belts, holster, whip carrier, satchel strap and the LC tie. And you can take it to the bank regarding the provenance of the clothing color, because it IS screen-accurate, both in real life and in photographs. The stuff was expensive at the time, but WELL worth the investment! :TOH:

This, to me, says ONE thing very clearly, whipwarrior:
You should post some (more) photos sometime SOON!
;)

Cheers, my friend!

They should! They're made of the same material the film pants were.

I would just like to say, my sympathys to Harrison Ford for having to wear this stuff while filming Raiders,ETC.(I am sure the very large paycheck helped ease the pain!).

The Shirts are quite comfortable and cool in Wamer climates, however those trousers are not.
Those Alden boots provide NO traction what so ever..And that Leather jacket in the middle of the jungle and desert!!!Geeez..Well it is only make believe.

The movies are make believe, but the locations they were shot in WERE NOT. So I extend sympathy to Ford. Those pants ARE itchy!

I guess that actors develop or inherently have a high tolerance for heat and uncomfortable costumes, it comes with the job really.

Yeah, but WHAT A COSTUME!!! If you're going to suffer the blazing heat of the Sahara, at least sweat in style! :D I've personally worn full gear trekking in the Mojave, and it's really not that bad, except the surface of the jacket feels as hot as fire if you happen to lay it on the ground for awhile, then attempt to pick it up with your bare hands. Ouch! :x

Todds pants don't itch much at all...And despite wools commonly being called "hot", I'd say that it isn't overly hotter than the suit pants I own...They're wool too, and I wear them all year....Sweat is sweat, and in summer wearing pretty much anything is going to make me sweat...I'd guess Ford has the same attitude to it...You can see he wasn't so bothered that he needed to change between scenes, since there's several photos of him lounging in kit...

I haven't found the pants to be overly "hot" to wear..It's all pretty much the same come 90% humidity and 38 degree sunshine weather....

Regards..

That's awesome for you Sir!
However, the MBA pants Are a lesson in disipline..to be sure. And whatever photos of Ford wearing these in the desert, well, Again , that huge paycheck does wonders for one's attititude.

Just my 2 cents.

Todd's pants have a "satin-like" liner that goes down to the knees to protect your legs where the fabric rubs. I have no idea if the originals had this or any other versions, but I'm very thankful Todd included it in his!!! :H:

Michael :TOH:

No, the originals don't have the satin liner. At least again, based on the fact that these are made the same way the originals were.

So they're half-lined (that's the proper term for that). A very nice addition to trousers such as these. In doing my research on cavalry twill trousers back a couple of years ago, one of the key aspects that all vendors I found that could make cavalry twill trousers asked was if a person wanted them half-lined or full lined. So it seems that such a common option means that wool tends to bother enough people for it to be offered. I don't recall if the officer pinks were half-lined - seems to me like they are.

I generally wear a pair of Wested trousers and those are not half-lined, so that probably explains the constant itching I feel.
As for the screen-used pairs - I thought I had better pics of the screen-used Raiders pair but I don't. Will have to do more research to see.

When I first tried on my very first pair of Wested pants, they itched like crazy.....for about 15 mins, but after that, they never itched again. They aren't lined with anything, so maybe I just developed a very fast tolerance to the itch. Lol.

Yup....

Wearing the Todds at work yesterday and the Wested's today, I can feel there's a difference..The Wested's aren't "bad" at all..But there's definitely more "itch" to them than the Todds, and Michael is right in that being down to the thigh covering...Since the thighs are pressed against the trouser more than the calf area....Without the lining it's not bad...But it's more obvious with the unlined Wested trousers for sure....

I'd guess it's made a little worse with more leg hair as well...But it's not a huge difference...The most itchy pants I have are the Magnoli's I own actually...Then the Wested, then the Todds...So I'm guessing there's some slight variation between the wools used for the twill..

Maybe NH ones are the closest to the Magnoli's?

I love my Todds even more I think.... :D
