New Crease N Corral Raiders Bull Whip

Today was a great day, not one but two items I ordered at the beginning of the year arrived. Both things I've wanted since I was a kid and first saw an Indiana Jones movie in the theatre. (I actually saw Temple of Doom first because my parents thought I was too young when Raiders came out.) The first is an Indy Whip and the second an Indy fedora.

The whip I ordered was a 10ft Raiders Bull Whip from Dusty Damrel at Crease N Corral. I chose this whip because I loved the color and the look of the dark transition knot in the pictures on Dusty's website and after reading tons of reviews the quality and price was just right. Now that the whip is here, I am absolutely thrilled with the with the color and craftsmanship of this whip. It is everything I had hoped for and more. Now I don't have any experience using a whip so I really can't comment on that aspect but I'm looking forward to taking the whip out to the backyard (once it stops raining) and trying it out.

If your looking for a well made, inexpensive bull whip you really can't go wrong with the ones Dusty makes.

I also ordered a dark brown Double Wrap Whip Strap from Dusty. I have a Raiders gun belt coming from Wade Egan but the price was right for one of these and I can use it with my normal belt.

Congratulations, and the whip looks great. It's going to be difficult learning on a 10 footer, but certainly not impossible.

I have a question now, for Dusty. The Strands coming out of the fall hitch look to be nearly 2 inches long. Are they actually that

long? If so why? Seems to cause an awful lot of unnecessary drag.

Yeah I had to decide what whip length to get, since this was more for displaying and wearing with an Indy costume and I probably will not get another whip any time soon, I went with the 10 ft. Realizing also that it would be a bit harder to learn with. But that's ok i've never done things the easy way hehe.

Nice whip! I have the same one too! I should post some pictures soon! I agree that it'll be a little difficult to crack without going up from an 8ft. but not impossible! I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! Just be careful because my arm gets a little sore from the weight of this whip being thrown about. That doesn't happen with my 8ft. KotCS Strain (SO smooth! And again, I know, pictures!) but it's getting better and other than that, a FANTASTIC whip to own! Have fun!

I found this out at the Queen Mary Summit last November. I had my 10' whip and thought I was doing everything right, but couldn't get it to crack. Dan 'Bullwhip' Borton watched me for a few minutes; said my form was good, but the whip was too big to start on. He loaned me a 7' an I got it to crack on the first throw. After working with the 7' for a while I switched back to the 10' and could feel the difference in length/weight/timing, but was able to get it to crack.

Shortly after the Summit I bought a 7' C-n-C whip from a member here and absolutely love it! I'm able to work on new cracks and then switch to the 10'.

Steel tube handle foundation with a 3/32" cable running through it, which goes the whip's length. A series of 5 bolsters, each

bound to compress the leather, and bound even extra at the transition.

So, no plaited bellies, five bolsters over a steel cable core. How does it ever break in? I have a cheap whip here with a half length cable core. The action is horrible from the transition to the end of the cable. From that point to the end the action is great. I would think that e-cord would be a better core, if anything other than leather is used. Just my $0.02. Cheers.

Edit: I don't know the diameter of the cable in my whip. I do know that some good cables are super flexible, but mine certainly isn't.

Well the overlay compresses the last bolster so there's some break in with that. And as you know, overtime on a whip with a

transition that is bound, it breaks in. Have you watched this review on the whip?

Robby mentions that the whip cracks better out of the box than regular whips do. I also assume ( not basing this on anything

I've seen or heard, it just makes sense ) that what break in the whip does have, it's not as extreme a change from new - broken

in as with most whips.

I've payed attention to Dusty's whips and reviews on them ever since I first found his site, and I've heard nothing but good

things about them. Literally nothing bad!

3/32 is a really small cable. I can see where it could actually be more flexible than the leather plaited around it. The one in my whip must be either extremely stiff or a large diameter. I will check out the review when I can. I might be very interested in one of these since it really is a good looking whip. Cheers.

I've had my CNC Raiders for about a year now and it is still going strong.
It has become more supple and more fluid with use, but, it is still as tight as a drum and the transition shows no sign of giving up anytime soon.

Whatever it is that Dusty does to make his whips, it seems to be working.

Thanks Dusty, both you and David Garrison did a great job on my whip and hat.

So today was the first day that it hasn't rained so I thought I'd take the whip out for a short spin. I think it was beginners luck because the first crack I tried was the forward crack and I cracked it on the first try. I'm sure my technique was awful but it was really satisfying

You really feel the power a whip can have when you hear it whisk through the air. I didn't hit myself either lol although I did have protective glasses on just in case. From what I've seen of the 10 foot in videos you want a slow steady movement so that's what I tried to do.

Anyway I'll be messing around with it once the ground dries out a bit more. I didn't want the whip getting all wet.

I have one of Dusty's Crusader whips and I'm assuming it's constructed the same way as the Raiders. In which case, I will say that photo is deceptive. Dusty's fall hitch is ridiculously small and tight -- I mean that in a good way! So the strands aren't as long as they seem from photos.

I own a few leather whips and I make my own nylon ones, and the Crusader is easily the best whip in my collection. No contest. Dusty's construction method may not be so-called "traditional," but it's producing an amazingly responsive and easy to use whip, not to mention great looking! Really, about the only flaw in Dusty's work is that he hasn't yet figure out how to clone himself so he can produce more!

The fall hitch knot on Dusty's whips are smaller than the point on most cowhide whips I've seen!
I measured the point on mine (just before the hitch knot) and it is only 5mm thick!!
