Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of trouble with my TNO ToD jacket transferring color to clothing and other leather. I noticed when wearing it with a light colored shirt it sometimes leaves stains around the areas touched by the collar. I've also had it stain the leather interior of my SUV. I remember reading a while back someone else had trouble with the dye rubbing off on car interiors, but I searched and could not locate it again.
The jacket is made of "Happy Cow" leather, and has been treated with Obenauf's leather treatment. Also, I'd like to know if anyone has had success removing dye transfer from the interior vehicle leather.
Any help with this is appreciated and if it needs to be moved to another topic area please feel free.
Thanks!

See that is a wonderful Nowak Jacket I'd buy seat covers.

You sure it's not the Obenauf's leather treatment transfering instead?
This is the first I've heard of any colors or dyes transferring from any TN jackets to date regardless of hide.

I'd think it very possible this is the likely culprit. Is this Obenauf's Oil or Heavy LP?
I am not sure Obenauf's is the right choice for a jacket. The oil is probably too greasy and may weaken stitches. The Heavy LP has to be pretty warm in order for it to absorb properly. In fact when I apply it to my boots, I do so in the summer and apply it warmed in the micro and then place the boots in a bag and set them outside in the sun for a couple of days.
If you don't it never really absorbs well, collects dust and leaves a residue that hang around for a long time.
It isn't so much a conditioner as it is a waterproofer that still allows leather to breathe, unlike some similar products such as Sno-Seal.
And I will add that it is amazing stuff, it works very well.

On a serious note, I own two Nowak jackets and never had a problem.

My thought was the Obenaufs as well, but it appears brown like the dye. The Obenaufs is slightly yellow at best. I love the jacket, just trying to figure a way to minimize the transfer. I've tried wiping it down with a dry cloth and even using leather cleaner.

Yes but what can happen is that the dressing "releases" the dye. Transfer is a very common problem with Aero jackets - some of the best jackets and hide available on earth - although too heavy for my taste.

Well.... I had a Nowak Raiders in the "new" shrunken lamb (#13). I hadn't treated it with anything but after a 3 hour drive found it had smudged off redish on the center armrest, the door armrest and the seat. These represent a mix of beige Volvo leather and vinyl. I tried some cleaners which faded it some and over time and abrasion from cloth jackets it's mostly worn off. That's been about a year though.
It was annoying no doubt. I have not had similar problems with any other jackets. The Nowak goat seems stable as do Wested's lamb, Todd's standard, Gibson and Barnes goat Raiders, Eastman's horsehide A-2 and Good Wear horsehide A-2. No problems with any of those.

I know this is an old thread but want to add my two cents. I heavily treated my Nowak jacket a few years back and recently again (threads on it). I wear white dress shirts daily to work and take many road trips in our Toyota Sienna with soft leather seats while wearing this jacket. Never has it stained anything in the slightest.
