My interest in whips started from seeing the first 3 Indiana Jones movies and Michelle Pfeiffer's scenes as Catwoman in Batman Returns. I was around 10 years old at the time.

These movies inspired me to make my first whip. I found a nice piece of blue synthetic rope under my parents house and a tree branch to tie it on. After doing so it wouldn't crack because the rope was too light so I tied a few knots on it which helped. After some use the rope frayed at the end and it cracked even better.

On my 11th or 12th birthday my parents bought me the best whip they could afford at the time. We got it from a saddlery shop in Auckland city, it was one of those mass produced mexican swivel handle whips made from cow hide. I managed to destroy the whip in a month from swinging on tree branches with it thinking that's what whips were made for. After a replacement from the shop that believed it was destroyed from cracking it I gave it another chance. The second whip lasted much longer but died from over use on concrete. I gave up on whips after this until the age of 28.

My interest came back due to Indiana Jones 4. Cool thing was I had enough money to buy a good quality whip and looked after my things better. After a bit of research I found Peter Jack's website. I got him to make me a 10' x 16 plait target bullwhip. It was amazing! I still remember the day it arrived! After a week or so I ordered a 6' and 8' from him so that I could have the 3 standard lengths. I kept buying whips from various makers after my first 3 and started building a collection.

A few months later I ended up seeing Peter Jack in the South Island of New Zealand to do a whip making workshop for 3 days. I went back to Auckland and started making whips by myself. I now have the best workshop ever and continue to make random bullwhip projects that I sell. I don't take custom orders because I don't want to compromise my creativity. I will eventually make a few whips that will become the standard models available on top of the random ones I offer.

Thanks! Sorry I don't have any at the moment but have made a lot of whips with the diamond handle pattern.

Santamariawhips, you wouldn't happen to be the man who goes by waitakere whips on youtube, would you?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I know that his last name is Santamaria and he makes a fantastic whip too( the whip you posted looks fantastic!). I had the pleasure of cracking one of his roo whips last year. Your style looks very similar and I know he learned from Peter Jack as well.

Just look me up under santamaria whips. By the way I changed it from Waitakere Whips because I didn't like it how the name rhymed and wanted my last name to represent the whips instead of my district.
