New temple of Doom Cowhide jacket *updated with pics!*

My new cowhide ToD has arrived.
It is awesome.

I can now rest easy knowing my measurements were satisfactory.
It fits perfectly, not too tight, not too baggy, perfectly.
Wested have done an amazing job.
The craftsmenship is amazing.

Style: Temple of Doom style
leather: new cowhide
colour: as was mentioned here, it may be listed as 'dark brown' but it is much lighter than I expected.
Darker than the movie jacket, but not by much. I like it.

It seems the perfect length to me. I'm glad I went this and not a Raiders style, as I think I would have found
that just a bit too short (just a personal preference)

Specs:
Brass D rings
Brass zipper
Cotton lining
One inside pocket only
Name tag above the inside pocket.

Modifications:
Underarm gussets
Elastic in the action pleats

This is a thick, warm, heavy leather. Heavier than I thought, and I haven't applied Pecards yet. This is what I wanted, as I intend to use it as a winter jacket. I couldn't be happier.

I've read the goat is more durable, but unless I end up being dragged by a truck (hey you never know, right? ), I can't see anything that would cause problems. Well, bullets I guess...

Just a note though, if you live in a warm climate, or want a spring/summer jacket - probably not the jacket for you!

I have a digital camera so I'll take some pics and post.
Can anyone offer a place I can host them ?

Thanks to all the info at COW, I have found THE jacket for me. :D
So thanks guys!

UPDATED WITH PHOTOS! (thanks to Buletman)
I've taken from a few different angles so those considering a ToD can see length and style. Collar shot is included.

Looks like a great jacket!

Mine is PERFECT in my eyes, save for the missing name tag that I ordered, but not a big deal as I can get one put on pretty much anywhere.

Congrats on your new aquisition.

It seems like a good colour. The colour looks almost the exact same as my Authentic Lamb.

Nice jacket

I want that jacket. It puts my wested Raiders to shame. Wested Raiders is too short, not longer like ToD. I Shall get a Tod next. Thanks for posting about your jacket. :)

buletman, I use an Earthlink.net browser and a custom built computer. However my Earthlink browser looks similar to Explorer (I think).

I know there can be issues with bmp-files in some browsers but they work fine with IE and Netscape on my WinXP.
Is your OS Unix or Linux perhaps?
I'd try and right click to save the file and then convert it to .jpg.

Swindy

Jeez, you can't get a better compliment than that for your jacket! 8)

Thanks!
Being Australian, I don't have much fascination with the Indy hat. As you know, they are largely based on the Australian Akubra. They are in every outdoor shop, hat shop, and country town tourist stores. So I've seen them all my life and many people have them - although they are mostly seen in country areas.

Hey sab,
why did you get elastic in the action pleats? And exactly where is the elastic? Can you post a close-up of it? Does it help? What gave you the idea to ask for it that way?

thanks , Indymike
Hi Mikey,
I got the idea from Indygear and COW (of course!)
Many people have complained that the pleats on the Wested jacket open up over time and there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it.
(this problem seems to be largely corrected on newer Westeds...)
Someone mentioned the (WAY!) more expensive Flightsuit jacket had elastic in there to stop it opening.
I enquired with Peter at Wested, and his response was they were happy to add it in there for me.

It is on the inside of the leather but underneath the cotton lining so it is invisible from any angle (hence I can't show you a picture). I believe it is high up, running across the back, xonnecting both pleats. You can feel it when you stretch both arms out in front of you.
The pleats do open and close nicely and I have no problems with them.

I got it in mine too - its just a strip of elastic, probably no thicker than your fedora ribbon, running across the back of the jacket in between your shoulders along your back. You can feel it through the lining on the inside - it is between the lining and the leather so you cant get access to it. Hopefully it wont snap! It works brilliantly (so far) in keeping the action pleats in shape. They open when you move, but the elastic will mkae sure they close when you put your arms down! I would definitly recommend it to anyone getting a jacket.

what happens if it tears off , how durable is it? hmm
hmmm if your worried, don't get it. :D
Everything else about Wested seems to be high quality, I doubt they used the worst, cheapest elastic they could find.

If it snaps after however many years, I guess my jacket will be like the other thousands of jackets that don't have elastic in it.
