My first whip.

My first whip.
This is my first try. I need some work on my taper but i've learned a lot after making this one.
It has the ball chain core and steel handle, first layer is 8 and then 12 over that.

Great try for your first whip! What is the material? It doesn't quite look like nylon to me, but I may just be seeing things wrong.

Well done! I'm inspired.
Looks like paracord to me. (Or, more accurately, paracord sheathing.) Do I win?

Re: My first whip.
I believe it may be paracord with the core strands not removed. If this is the case, it would be helpful to remove the core strandsOildale Jones wrote:Well done! I'm inspired.

inside the paracord next time. They will lay down flat, and will be able to plait it tighter and easier.
Re: My first whip.
That's what I thought also, which is contributing to the issues with taper.riku1914 wrote:Oildale Jones wrote:

Re: My first whip.
WOW--that actually looks pretty good! What is the length?
Re: My first whip.
Hey guys, sorry for the delay. Was waiting for the forum to open.
It is paracord sheath. the strands were already removed. these were filler strands of a thicker rope.
It is just under 8 feet. It has a ball chain core and 8 plait belly with 12 overlay.
I have since learned a better way to drop strands so I made a new one.
Thinking of taking this apart and make it over.
I'll post pics of my new one. Thanks for the comments.

8 foot, with cable core. 8 plait belly and 12 overlay.
Cracks very easy.

Re: My first whip.
Did you take the filler strands out of the inside of the paracord?AllanM wrote:This is my next one.

Re: My first whip.
For what ever reason, there was no filler strands, so I didn't have to go through all that work.

Re: My first whip.
That's so strange, it looks like it has the filler strands in. I made a paracord whip with the filler strands in once and it looked EXACTLY like that, sort of bumpy on the diamonds for example. Do you have any idea why it's doing this? The filler strands are all
I could think of. It is paracord right? Or am i mistaken on that?

Re: My first whip.
Well the first reason for the bumps is probably I'm not a professional whip maker, haha.
It looks like para cord, but i'm not sure if it really is. These strands were taken from
the guts of a bigger rope. No one that I know sells the stuff "paracord" in my city. I saw this stuff
at my local Canadian Tire store and thought I'd give it a try. It looked like the para cord I was seeing
in videos. I figured if I could make one, then I'd order the real stuff online.

Re: My first whip.
All right I see why it's like that now. Here's a good source of paracord, best price I've ever found, and it's good stuff :AllanM wrote:Well the first reason for the bumps is probably I'm not a professional whip maker, haha.
