Young friend learned to crack my Jacka CS

We had a couple and their 15 yr old son over for a beer Sunday and I pulled out my Jacka CS 10' to show them. They all loved the look and feel of the whip. After awhile I took father and son outside to show them how it cracked. I rattled off a bunch of cracks with my right then left hand. After I tired I asked Dan, the father, if he wanted to give it a try. He tried everything and wouldn't listen to my coaching at all. He kept getting more and more fustrated making all his efforts fail. He excused himself and said he'd be back but instead stayed inside with the girls.
His son Taylor however stayed outside and enthusiastically kept at it, listening to my advise and eventually began to crack the whip. Once he figured out the initial flick of the wrist, and to let the whip do the work, he was progressing nicely. I kept at him to also use his left arm and he caught on with that too. About 90% of the time when using his right arm the whip would make a small crack during its return as it laid down on the ground behind him. That was just too funny and we kept laughing about it. Overall we were outside for about an hour.
When he told his dad he was cracking the whip his dad look surprised and said its harder then it looks.

That's a good story! 15 is a good age to learn this stuff. It's funny how sometimes more "mature" folks don't know how to listen to good advice, but younger people are actually sometimes much more used to taking instruction. Good for him! And good for you for taking the time to show him the proper way!

Bravo!

The jacka CS is a touch whip to crack, that's impressive he got it so quickly :D

edit: did you ever get those measurements?

That's what I told him. I said the 10' CS was THE granddaddy of Indy whips and it can wear you out because it's so heavy. I gave him much praise for his achievement and he was grinning ear to ear the whole time. He kept calling out all the little things he was experience during the practice. I told I never had a whip before this one and that when we use a smaller one it will probably feel like a toy lol

Man I completely forgot about those measurement. These pain killers have robbed my memory. I should have a email to remind me when I get home from this posts.

I added 7 new photos to the album. Let me know if these give you the measurements you needed.

Thank you so much, I bookmarked it and that gave me exactly what I needed.

edit: BTW, WOW!!! The thong has a diameter of 32.4mm, On one whip I had planned on making it thick as a jacka while still having

the outward appearance of an indy, The thong was about 26.5mm and the handle about 24, I wasn't even close!!! The handle is

even 30 mm thick.

Be sure to save the photos you need. My flickr account auto deletes the oldest photos as new ones are added. I can't recall the photo limit it has. It's kind of nice because it keeps it lean and fresh. :D All my photos are backed up on an older Mac tower I turned into my media server. It has two 1TB drives, one backs up to the other so I always have 2 copies of my files. I'm loving this new iCloud thing! I take a photo with my iPhone and they show up on my Macbook, and iPad without doing a thing. I use to hate syncing.

You have those drives in a RAID 1 array?

I'll save them, thanks again!
