Pouncing a hat

Hello,
I am not very knowledgeable about hats. I was wondering what pouncing is and how to do it.
I read that Marc of AB Deluxe pounces his hats with 600 800 1000 and 1200 grit sandpaper.

Pouncing a hat is sanding a hat until the felt is nice and smooth. The finer the grit abrasive the finer the finish (assuming you are starting with good felt that is...). There's LOADS of info on pouncing on the site. Here's just a few I found...
