8 ' 12 plait indy whip. NEW PICS

Post by riku1914 »

This one I'm going to classify more as a modern morgan, as the whip is thicker than the indy whips, the handle appears shorter,

and I intentionally made the heel knot strand crowd more. Here it is , 8 ' 12 plait, in kangaroo leather:

I gave it a few test cracks and even though it's really stiff, it still cracks very well.

Don't know yet, it's going up on ebay either today or tomorrow... probably

Forgot to mention this is my fourth leather whip, 3rd in kangaroo leather. It has a kangaroo core, two 4 plait bellies and two

bolsters. Nothing special, just thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks for the compliments :D

Maybe just a leetle taper would make it look less stocky.

Nice job redoing the handle and the heel. How hard was it to redo?

Wasn't hard, just time consuming.

I took a couple of pictures :

This pic is after I took everything in the heel and around it off, it's all sitting around the whip itself.

New lead in the heel, overlay bound down :

it tapers just before the thong starts, but the transition knot covers this. The handle is about 23mm, and the thong is about 25mm, which is just about perfect dimensions for a TLC whip.

How much time would you say it took? I'd say it was worth it, it looks dang near perfect now.

That flashing covers the whole length of the nail, not just the end where the heel is, doesn't it?

Handle, the flashing covers the whole length of the handle, is what I meant to say.

Just where the heel is.

Probably about an hour and a half, two hours. That includes the time I let the glue set, which was about 30 and 20 minutes, two

different areas.

Thanks for the compliment! I wish I could keep it but won't have money for more leather if I did!

Good on you for redoing the heel knot! Not because it was horrible before, but because it shows that you have both a keen eye for detail AND, and this is most important, the humility to undo what has taken a fair a mount of work because you felt you could do it better and THAT is the telling part. We can all sit on our laurels or say it's good enough, but unless it really is the best that we can do at that point in time, it's not good enough.

Keep at it and keep that attitude going; it will lead you to great things! Congratulations!
