That is to say while wearing it. Should it be just under the bottom of the jacket or should it be compltley exposed?
I looked at some pic's but it's not diffinetive.

Just like every ones oppinion.
Thanks in advance. :TOH:

I prefer raiders style. Under the jacket just under the bottom of the jacket.

I wear mine on a daily basis, but over the jacket, I find it much more pratical.
It comes down to a matter of opinions and what the person needs it for.

I have my strap set so the buckle sits between the second and third button on my shirt. That puts the top of the bag right at my belt. My jacket is longer than my belt so it's covered slightly.

I wear mine inside the jacket, just under the bottom, mostly for comfort.

Also, I've wondered lately if there may also a very practical reason for wearing the bag like this in daily life: after a while, wouldn't the leather strap will start to wear away at the jacket where it rests along the shoulder? And the lower you wear the bag, wouldn't the pulling wear on the stitching for the D or O rings? Just a couple thoughts

It should be worn over the jacket so you don't get hung up on a tank's gun barrel. Indy shows this wisdom later in life. :)

I wear mine over the jacket most of the time, for practicality so I don't have to take my jacket off to get the bag off when getting into the car, for example. Although it is put on over the jacket, I pull the open jacket over the strap in front.

As for height, I wear it so it is as low as possible but doesn't bang into my leg - somewhere between my hip and butt.

I keep mine under my jacket....I prefer this since I may remove the jacket, but not the bag, so it works for me (And usually I'm not in danger of being hit by tanks...Although some weekends it's a little more hit and miss..LOL)..

The height is where my hands can reach it, so about half under the jacket, half out...The metal roller sits about mid chest..I find that the most useful and the least annoying as the bag doesn't swing badly against my leg at that height..

Regards..

Yup, if it's an original bag and the straps have dry rot in them, it won't take long for the rings to tear through ( I had to make an emergency duct tape repair in the field after this happened to mine! :o ). Image

I understand dry rot, two of my brand new/vintage MKVII from WPG had the issue of ripped through on the rings. Gonna have them both replaced with new webbing and be done with it. I've had a MKVII for a long time and never had the dry rot issue.

But any way, Ive decided to wear mine just so the jackets just over the top.

I have 3 vintage MK VII bags, 2 from WPG (a W&G and another brand) and another W&G from eBay. None have had tear issues and we've loaded them up with cameras and food for long hikes. It's really a hit and miss I think.

Mine's an original as well. IIRC I got it from Sentimental Journeys out of the UK over 10 years ago. Don't baby it and not even a popped seam to be seen. It was definitely in used condition when I got it.

Croft one suggestion on replacing the ring webbing, either use nylon webbing or cotton on the outside with a nylon strip underneath. There's a couple threads with tutorials.

No problemo, Indiana Jeff, Mr. Egans going to repair them, he mention something about reinforcement, and even though I only need repair on one, I'll have them both done. One needs new snaps, been haveing issue's with em for some reason. Also this'll give me the excuse I wanted for getting a new Indy bely and try one of his whip holders.
