HF's distressed jacket question

I was watching the bonus disc the other day and somewhere along the way was the costume designer that put together HF's costume. She mentions that in order to make the outfit appear to be an outfit that Indy slept in and took everywhere he went, she said that she used Harry's pocket knife and steel wool (or something like that) and made the jacket appear to be old. So my question is.....how do you distress Wested's Raider's English lambskin jacket w/ steel wool and a pocket knife? (Looking at my jacket today and I realized that it has aged nicely....and it's only a year old!)

BTW: I was driving a 4-wheeler over the weekend with my Wested and I noticed my jacket looked awsome after I wiped off the dried excess mud. It also didn't look half bad w/ the mud on either lol! So that little adventure broke in my jacket nicley...just my $0.02

I was wondering about that also, I really wonder if she was the one that really did all the distressing, but you never know. Steel wool would do the trick ok, like sandpaper does, but the knife?

My guess is that it would be used for scraping and the point wouldn't come into play. Maybe the knife from the tent scene with Marion?

you may be right.....If I were to do the distressing this way, I'd need a tutorial. I would like to distress it though.

Yes in the movie bonus disk she used steel brush and knife. Who cares if the jacket lasts, it;s a movie costume. I want my jacked to last a loooong time!
Try stuffing it with newspaper, zipped up, and dragging it around the block a couple of time on a rope behind your bicycle, better yet on a unpaved road.
You won't severely gouge the leather, and you can achieve years of wear look in hours. Chemicals can damage the threads and natural structure of the leather skin,....don't do it! The "50 Mission" look on old WWII bomber jackets were due to WEAR. Accelerate the process, not nuke it!

I have a discount store leather jacket that I use for working on the car and such. I have always wanted to see what a jacket looks like after doing that. You have some good ideas.
