Thanks my friends.

this is an old hat I got as a gift from my good friend 'G' a few years back.

The brim was always to wide for my taste, wider then Raiders standards so I trimmed her down and instantly I saw that it could turn into a really nice LC hat. It is blocked on a 'Raiders' block and is why it can remind of CS hat in some shots. but mostly it looks like the LC to me.

took of the ribbon it came with and gave her a lighterone and made a new bow.

I wanted to give her a slight turn since that gives such an adventuries look and the CS looks to be slightly turned in some scenes.

Cool. There's still a slight hint of Raiders there, but it definitely looks LC to me especially in the first shot. The brim still seems a touch wide to me, but that may be the slight turn throwing me off. Fantastic looking lid! You gonna give this some regular wear? It suits you dude. :)

Nice flair on the wings there Holt....Great LC hat...

And if you lowered the side brims a touch you'd be okay for a Crystal Skull too...Although the LC seems to fit on that hat (and with your gear of course)..

Great stuff! :TOH:

Curling the sides of the brim is a definite Last Crusade "must have" for the hat. Looks good. Narrowing the brim is a good add, too. Subtle, but needed. The bash style on the front of the crown says a little more Crystal Skull. So you named the style accurately, to my eyes.

Hi guys.

an update.

I finally have my LC hat!!

I reblocked my hat with my vintage block. I actually started out to make an CS hat but when I pulled it of the block I just saw something in the hat shape I had to follow up on. so I started trimming the brim down while saying goodbye to the wider brimmed CS hat train. so, slammed in that bash and here she is now 10 min ago.

boy! I lucked out with this majic block since it pulls of the Raiders AND the LC.

Dude, If you don't wanna post pics of the block then just say outright that you'd rather not do it..
It's your block and it's your choice, but comments like the above show little respect for members of the forum that joined up in the belief that info like this would be shared.. ](*,)

Quite honestly, what Holt chooses to chat about here or show isn't such an issue that we need to be vexed that he won't show this block...He contributes so much else that something like that isn't a huge issue eh? :-k

Eric...That hat looks blinding mate...Really well formed...If you DO ever decide to fall outta movies and start a hattery, I'm in for about 4 different hats.... :TOH:

I guess that depends on whether or not you are looking for a vintage block with Raidersesque proportions. Holt has obviously found one and it would obviously help others who are looking to do the same if he would post photos and measurements. Of course he doesn't have to share this information, although it would certainly be much appreciated. There comes a point when asking questions and being ignored does become quite vexing.

At any rate, that is a beautiful looking hat, Holt. Congratulations on finding such a wonderful block.

I have never said anyting about giving out measurments. photos yes, but have decided not to. a few of you know why I have not reposted any photos. I know it would be much appreciated and I am sorry to not repost but there is a reason for why I have not done it and it was strongly suggested (which I agree with) to not post photos or measurments if I decide on going down that rabbithole that has opend up to me.

sorry guys!

Kim Hoffman wrote:No reason for Holt to give away the secrets to his success. Good work. If I wasn't already waiting for a hat I would greatly tempted.

I guess we are all lucky that the original founders of IndyGear did not feel the same way. Heck, I remember when Steve Delk freely gave out his blockmaker's contact info so gearheads could buy their own copies of his block!

And before anyone flames me, I understand that it is completely up to Holt if he chooses to not share information, be it photos, measurements, techniques, etc., but I don't have to like it nor do I have to remain silent.

Now, if he had said at the very beginning, in the original thread –viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53565– when he first removed the photos of the block something along the lines of "I have decided to take the photos of my block down as I am considering starting my own hat shop" or even "At the request of several well known hat makers I have decided to take down the photos of my hat block" I would have shut up about it, and even if I hadn't liked it I would have understood the reasons behind his actions and would have accepted them. That is not what was done however, and for some time I was under the impression that new photos of the block were coming. I actually held off purchasing a vintage block I had been eyeing because I thought I could better confirm if it was the right size and shape after comparing it to Holt's block. I unfortunately waited too long and that block has been sold. After some time had passed Holt made a joke that he no longer had the block because he had used it for firewood! I mean, come on, how hard would it be to give a simple, honest answer? That's all I want, just the reason, one gearhead and fellow Indy fan to another, as to why he took the photos down. Is that really too much to ask?

Well Jack, here's how I see it (and according to your post, its the way you see it too :? )...the block, as well as the pictures of aforementioned block, are Holt's to do with what he pleases. The decision to share the reasons he does not care to share the block are his as well. His comment that he burned the block was clearly tongue in cheek. He never meant for anyone to believe he had destroyed it, and I'm sure no one did.
You have voiced your complaint and we all have read it. No one is asking you to be happy about it. But unless you have anything that is relevant to the Last Crusade/CS hat (which is what this thread is dedicated to) to add, lets move things along and not run this into the ground. :TOH:

I was always told that the brim wasn't shorter in LC but whenever I try to get my Fed IV to do the LC swoop on the sides, I can never get it to look right. I've always felt to properly do it, you have to have a more oblong shaped head to streth the hat longer.....but maybe not.

Wow great hat! I've always loved the look of the last crusade fedora. What are the specs on the brim? To me its a better look for everyday wear. The raiders specs are a bit "bold" (for me) for just wearing to the office, but great for anything outdoors.

Reet Eric?,

What have you done regarding the centre dent? Can we see any shots from the top?...I was looking at shots of the LC hat and some of the top shots show a really wide centre dent, almost like a very loose 'C' crown...When I do this on my Penman LC, it changes both the look of the profile and the front slightly......

Cheers dude!!
