US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
I have been bitten by the bug, again, and am looking for my next jacket.
What are the differences in sizing between the US made and the import of the Legend in striated lamb?
From a quick perusal of the forum it looks like the US made is more fitted. Is that accurate? Are there any other differences in sizing or style?
I'm also not sure on which size to order. I'm about 6'1", 165 pounds, and usually wear a 38-40 suit. I think the medium would be a better fit in the torso, but I'm worried that the sleeves will be too short. Does anybody with similar measurements have any advice? Can anybody tell me how long the sleeves on the medium are? Thanks fellas.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, it is good to be back!

Hi Mark. Thanks for the kind words.
Oh, we've been bouncing around in Asia and between Japan and the US for the last few years. It looks like we're back in the US for good now. I'm not too far from your neck of the woods actually. We're living up in northern Kentucky. I believe Nashville is about a four hour drive or so from us. My boys are four and five. The eldest just started kindergarten last month. They've kept me extra busy the last few years, but now that they are starting school I'm beginning to get a little more time for myself.
It sure is good to back on COW.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Not a complete apples to apples comparison, but here are measurements I took off US made Legends in Bison.
Medium
Windflap 22"
Pit to Pit 21"
Bottom Hem 20"
Shoulder 6"
Back Length (from bottom of collar stand) 25"
Back Across (measured at yoke seam) 16"
Sleeve (Shoulder seam to cuff) 25"
Cuff 5"
Large
Windflap 23"
Pit to Pit 23"
Bottom Hem 22"
Shoulder 7"
Back Length (from bottom of collar stand) 26"
Back Across (measured at yoke seam) 18"
Sleeve (Shoulder seam to cuff) 25"
Cuff 6"
As a frame of reference I'm 5'10" 175# and wear a 42R suit jacket and the medium made me feel like a sausage. I exchanged for the large and am much happier with the fit. If memory serves, IndyDawg may be closer to your height/weight and he has a Medium US made Bison that he loves the fit of.
Regards,
Indiana Jeff

Bourbon County! Must be around Paris, KY, I'm guessing.ShanghaiJack wrote:Hi Mark. Thanks for the kind words.

Hmm, I'm curious as well. We're like twins as far as measurements go. Always have a hard time finding a size that is fitted (I don't like the baggy look) while maintaining long enough sleeves (excessive ride-up is another pet peeve). Good luck.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Michaelson,
Oops, I forgot there was a Bourbon County And here I thought I was being clever when I put "Bourbon Country" down for my location! We're actually farther north. In fact if we were any farther we'd be in Ohio! Thanks again for the kind words. It really is nice to be back in the US after so many years abroad.
Regards,
SJ
Indiana Jeff,
Thanks for the measurements. My main worry is that the medium's sleeves will be too short. I will PM Dawg and see what his take on it is.
Regards,
SJ
Arca,
I hear you on all counts brother. If it's not tailored it's just about impossible, although some of the slim fit shirts that LL Bean has put out recently fit me very well. My Wested, on the other hand, which was tailored to my measurements is far too baggy in the chest. I don't know if I thought I'd grow into it or if I just didn't measure accurately. I will keep you posted if I do find that holy grail.

SJ

Ha, I didn't say did I? I must have been tired when I posted that last night. We're living in Park Hills which is a small city close to Ft. Mitchell and Covington, KY. We really are only about 2.5 miles south of Cincinnati. My wife likes being close to Cinci, but I'd prefer to be farther south to tell the truth.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Well, I've written to Myke, Sarge, and now Amber at US Wings and they sure are not making it easy for me to order a jacket. I was hoping to get some measurements on the medium vs. the large, but those are apparently trade secrets.
It looks like it's down to a Medium long or a large. Has anyone here bought a Legend in a Medium Long? Could you give me the measurements if you have?
What do you guys think, medium long, or large? I prefer a neater fit, but I don't want it too tight.
Here are the measurements that I sent to US Wings in my email.
Arm: 25 inches
Shoulder: 6 inches
Chest: 39-40 inches
Waist: 34.5 inches
Back, from the collar to the bottom of the jacket: 26 inches
I am 6'1" tall and weigh about 165 pounds.
Thanks for the help.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Really tough to say, but based on the measurements you just posted and the ones I listed for the Medium I had in hand, a Medium-Long is the way to go. I think you'd find a large too roomy in the chest.
Best of luck.

Those are my thoughts as well. I guess if the medium long is too small I can always return it. I'd just rather avoid that hassle if at all possible. Thanks for the advice and info Jeff. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and place the order for the medium long and see how it fits.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Myke and Hack are atrocious at customer service, not helpful at all and actually their last advice sent me down the wrong path. Their refund policy is horrible too, and actually pretty horribly worded. That said I do think USW's products are a great price for an excellent leather, and I've had enough leather jackets to know what I'm talking about. The person to speak to is Rita, she is more than helpful.ShanghaiJack wrote:Well, I've written to Myke, Sarge, and now Amber at US Wings and they sure are not making it easy for me to order a jacket. I do find it a tragedy that a company like USW, that appears to want to help, and has 'customer service is our No.1 goal' type of thing on their website, refuses to assist on measurements on their own product that they want to sell. Coming at it from a business perspective, I just to not understand that at all.
When I asked for measurements I got:
"I am sorry but at this time we do not have any extra people to take measurements of our jackets! I think there is a size chart on our site at http://www.uswings.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"
and
"I am sorry, I do not have the measurements for the 30th anniversary legend jackets."
... Oh purrrlease !

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
so the 30th anniversary legend has different sizes?
Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
I cant guarantee that as I don't have an non-30th legend, but I've seen measurements on here before that seemed different. But why can't Wings tell us that ? What's the big secret ?

Exactly! It seems ridiculous that they cannot or will not give out the measurements on these jackets that they are trying to sell and that we want to buy . I did see another thread where someone, Weston perhaps , said that he was told that Wings' lawyers advised them against releasing the jacket's measurements. But this still seems ridiculous to me. I really like the looks of this jacket, but to tell the truth I am beginning to have second thoughts as to whether I want to do business with this company.CRB wrote:But why can't Wings tell us that ? CRB,
I guess I should take a look at their refund/exchange policy before I go any further.
How can I get in touch with Rita? I might give it one more go before I give up.

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
They won't even give out measurements now? That's the only way I'd buy a jacket from them, personally, as I've had two rounds of purchasing experience with them over the years and had fit issues each time. In fact, as much as I liked the latest round of Wings Indy jackets, I found a medium was perfect in the shoulders for me, but incredibly small everywhere else, while a large would've been the complete opposite. I decided to pass and settle for a complete refund, as I realized I would still not get a jacket from Wings that fit me like a standard 40 regular. It's sad, because they're great jackets otherwise, and at a great price, but I'm not going to wear anything that doesn't fit me right. That's also why I've suggested folks get jacket measurements from them before purchasing a jacket, just so they can avoid the same problem I've always had. I guess it really is just a crapshoot now. Bummer.
I remember when Sarge asked everyone whether or not to make these jackets in S-M-L or number sizing (as in 40 Regular) and the consensus was to go with number sizing. I imagine that would've solved 90% of the fitting/return problems. Oh, well. Sarge, I wish you would make a jacket that would fit me normally!

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Looks like we are very close to the same size. My US made SL is a size L, and I wouldn't want it to fit any tighter than it does. I recommend a size L. I can provide measurements, but bear in mind I've been wearing my jacket for a year now and is well broken in so some of the measurements may be slightly different now than a new one right off the line.ShanghaiJack wrote:Well, I've written to Myke, Sarge, and now Amber at US Wings and they sure are not making it easy for me to order a jacket. Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Bink,
It seems that way to me. At least three of the people I have spoken with so far would not/could not give me any measurements. I am going to try and get hold of Rita and see if she can help as CRB has suggested. I can completely understand your feelings about not buying from them. I am tall and thin and usually have a tough time finding jackets or shirts that fit properly.
Weston,
I am on the wall now between the medium long and the large. It would make it a lot easier to decide which if you could give me the measurements of your jacket. In fact, it was looking at your jacket, the before and after water treatment shots, that got me jonsing for a new jacket in the first place! That is an awesome jacket you have. What size suit jacket do you wear, if you don't mind my asking?
Regards,
Brian

Re: US Wings Striated Lamb Legend US Made sizing questions
Thank you Brian, I'm glad you like it! I typically wear a size 40 or 42 suit.
Here's what I've got:
Sleeve, from shoulder to cuff: 24 1/4"
Chest, from pit to pit: 23"
Back length from base of collar stand to hem: 24"
Again, that's post wash and lots of wear.

Thanks Weston That helps a lot. I just checked and those meaurements match up very closely to my old Wested goatskin. I see a USW striated lambskin in a large in my hopefully near future!
