I want Todd's boots, but I can't find a reason to get them

I got my close enough Rockport Farnum's 4 years ago when they were a popular close enough (and before Todd came out with his boots). I've been wearing them pretty hard, but they just won't give up. These were the tan boots, by the way, NOT the brown ones.
When they were new...

Those farnums do look awesome! I have a pair myself and man are they COMFY! Just a warning, Todd's boots are much heavier (as are Alden's) and no ways as comfortable. I've owned both and I sold the Todd's and kept the farnums. I have never owned Alden's though...

Dude your shoes keeps spinning around are they possessed?
Those do looking very comfortable!
I own a pair of Aldens and like any typical good leather shoe and boot they take some time to get broke in and start feeling very comfortable. One thing about Aldens you can get them refurbished & re-soled if needed which is very nice option to have. But then again I'm sure you could do that as well with your boots.
Basicly It all boils down to what you want and like in this Indy realm we have all got ourselves in. Looks like your very happy with your boots an that's all that matters!
Congrats! Keep on wearing the $&@% out of them!

It's actually very beneficial to your feet and your shoes to have more than one pair. It helps your shoes last longer, and your feet will be better in different shoes two to three times a week.

Agreed with Joyce
.
Shoe experts (yep, they're out there) state it's always a good plan to rotate shoes every other day to allow shoes to dry out.
Getting a second pair is a good idea if that's all you wear normally.

Did I hear somewhere that Todd is out of his current stock of boots? I could have sworn that I'd heard it somewhere. Hopefully I'm wrong, because I need to purchase a new pair myself in size 11. The ones I got last year are falling apart.

Todd seems to be out of

Todd should restock most of his popular items before Halloween. Once you see it on his site buy it ASAP. In years past that's what happened to me everything was gone!

Well, I do usually rotate between my Farnums and my Corcorans, but this argument may still give me the push I need to go ahead and order. I've heard they run a little large. If I normally wear a 11.5 (US) should I order an 11?

We wear the same(11.5) size. I ordered 11.5 and they are perfect.

I have both Farnums and Aldens. I love them both and wear them pretty much every day. I may be mistaken, but my sense is that Todd's are made to be a "costume" boot rather than a daily wearer. If you want them just to wear when you're "geared up" for some event, that's one thing, but if you want to "wear" them, I doubt that they're the best choice.

Todd doesn't sell half sizes.

He had few pairs of 12 size boots in stock couple of weeks ago, when I ordered a pair. Any other were out of stock and he said, that he's looking for new manufacturer for Todd's Outdoorman's boots.

Your boots look great and unless you wear the tar out of your new Todd's they'll never look any more "Indy" than your Farnum's!

Couldn't have said it better myself! AND the Farnum's are Water proof/resistant! They also can be resoled...at least I think I remember someone saying that.

I respectfully have to disagree with this. I have worn my Todd's boots practically every day and have loved them. Every day use was fine. The only problem I ever had was when I abused them a bit by kicking at some paving bricks that were frozen into my yard. The upper started to separate from the sole, but a $5.00 fix at the local cobbler made it right as rain. At this point I'm just waiting for cooler weather when I'll be wearing pants more than shorts so that I can wear them regularly again.

That's good to know. My entirely subjective view was based on reading about separations etc., which may have been more of an issue with the early runs than with the present stock.
Thanx,

At 80 bucks, they better be wearable daily. 80 dollars is a lot of money to spend on any shoe. Even though I splurged on a pair of Aldens, my budget for a nice pair of everyday shoes that I feel will last me awhile is $60 -$70.

Let's face it, when you find a pair of shoes you like, it's difficult to change. As comfortable as they are, if I were in your shoes
, I might be tempted to buy another pair of these Rockports? At some point, consider the 403's or 405's. They are in essence a throwback shoe, and will not be padded like the Rockport, but once you break them in, they are a great boot to own, as well as being very screen something-or-other...they are as tough of a wearing boot as I have ever owned.

I wouldn't want to get another pair of the Rockports. Yes, they are comfortable, and I have gotten lots of good use out of them, but it wasn't always that way. As you can see, these shoes are very long, and they're also on the narrow side. When they arrived, they were tight side to side, but I didn't want to order up a size because the toes were already longer and pointier than I really wanted in a shoe (especially an Indy boot). Breaking them in was a carefully planned and VERY painful evening.
Hollowpond wrote:They also can be resoled...at least I think I remember someone saying that.
I'm no cobbler, but these foam soles don't look like they can be replaced.
Tundraraider wrote:Your boots look great and unless you wear the tar out of your new Todd's they'll never look any more "Indy" than your Farnum's!
Thanks, but I bet I can achieve this same look on any boot after only one year without artificially distressing the boots.
Texan Scott wrote:At some point, consider the 403's or 405's.
If only I could afford to drop $300 on a pair of shoes, I would have gotten the Aldens in the first place instead of the Rockports.
I'm well aware of the weight and feel of hard rubber soled boots. My closet is full of combat boots, flight boots, and paratrooper boots (the Corcoran's I mentioned earlier are most similar to Aldens in construction) - some issued, some purchased. In any case, I'll probably keep wearing these Rockports until my socks show through the bottom.
