The Bag Strap Buckle

I always spot the buckles on the nazis in Raiders, as they look identical to the one Indy has one his strap. They appear to be off combat suspenders, though I have been unable to find an exact match. Take a look at the dvd of the first shot when the nazis are shown inside the truck during the chase. Anyone have a screen grab?

No, they wouldnt work, German " Y- Straps" buckles have another metal hooker on the bottom part for attaching it to something else.

Thanks Indiana! That link had the picture I was looking for. The pics you posted are of the hook hardware they sell seperately. The buckle can be seen only on the tropical web Y straps... which are out of stock... not to mention pricey.

After coming up with this theory independently, I though I'd ressurect this topic with some screen caps. I really think that it is very possible that they used the same buckles as are on the Tropical Y-Straps. Unfortunately, no reproduction I have seen matches the version in the movie.

I guess its possible, since the straps are a little different from the actual issue straps. Im not sure, but the straps used in the movies were likely post war Czech surplus. I know WWII Reenactors would sometimes modify them to look like the WWII German issue ones. Of course, if the straps were made for the movie then it is quite likely that the buckles were the same. :)

Kicking in my own two pence worth, In that first frame grab the buckle on the strap of the soldier on screen right just looks like a dull silver finish, like zinc or some other alloy. Actually, if the webbing was made for the film in England, it's possible they were nothing more than P37 webbing buckles. As an austerity measure to conserve brass, a lot of fittings were made from stamped steel painted black. It would have been simple to strip the paint and use them "in the white."

Also, the buckles pictured earlier in the thread were the type used at the bottom of the strap. On German Y straps, the waist belt rested in the hook and helped support its weight.

Cheers!
