Height of the hat
Do you ever have people comment on how "tall" your hat is?
I have an AB Deluxe which I love. It's just fantastic and I can't recommend Marc's work more highly.
So, it's no reflection at all on AdventureBilt because we all WANT a screen-accurate hat......but I think the average person today really has no idea how high the crown is on one of these hats.
I don't hear it much; maybe once or twice. My hat fits exactly the way I like it so I don't think it's "riding high".
Anyone else ever get a comment on how tall the crown of a screen-accurate hat is?

Re: Height of the hat
Yes, my Mom has commented on my Penman Raiders being tall. She says she guesses she always has my Grandpa's (her Dad's) hat in mind and that it had a real low crown. Overall though, most people can't get past the normal, "Hey, Indiana Jones" comment!

Re: Height of the hat
I know I was surprised at how tall the hat was when I got mine. I have a vintage fedora that was my grandfathers and it was not so tall. As I look back on the movies and photos, I am getting used to the height and look.
Re: Height of the hat
I only had this happen to me one time in all the years that I have been wearing an 'Indy style' fedora...don't even recall which hat it was at the time, but some guy looked at me at a hockey game that my company was a sponsor for and said:
"That sure is one tall hat you've got." I simply replied: "Yeah, that's true and Lincoln is not real happy that I borrowed it for the night." He just looked at me, turned and went on his way. I just could not see taking the time to explain why it was the way it was. W>

Sadly, it probably wasn't what you said that made him turn away, my friend. He probably didn't know who Lincoln was.

You know...and I really hate to say this -- but you are most probably right. I had the same thought when it happened. I could realy take off on this, but that is not why anyone is here. Re: Height of the hat
I have a Penman and an AB and my wife has commented on many occasion about how tall the crown is. We both watch a lot of old 30's and 40's movies and I have to constantly point out in them, " See, look at that one and the one on that guy,.. tall crown, right?" She's just not the kind of person to notice those kinds of things, though,... until it's on 'my' head. I need the height on a hat for my head. My face demands it for me to look right wearing a hat. That's one of the reasons I like the 'Indy' style hats.

Re: Height of the hat
So far, I haven't really had anyone comment on the height of my AB CS or my Penman CS train traveler (which is even taller). I don't know why. Perhaps I've just got a fuller (read "larger") face with which the taller, less-tapered, hats go well? I know the slightly tapered crown of my cheap Panama-style hat just doesn't look that great on me.

The tall crown was one of the reasons I wanted my AB. I have a very high crown to my head, and regular hats don't fit at all. I look absolutely ridiculous in baseball hats as they always ride really high on my head as if I'm wearing a kid's hat. The high crown of the Indy fedora is a must for me.

Not trying to advertise our work, just sharing a personal experience.
When we started to make hats, 4 years ago, we had many critics over the height of the hat.
Many customers found it too high.
The first thing we did was correct blocks, to a more accurate look.
More than a year ago we began to request more information to customers.
Height, weight, and even if possible, sending pictures to get a full idea of the physical characteristics of each.
In this way we offer Indy hats better proportioned, according to the wearer.
Regards.-

Height of the hat
I have an Adventurebilt beaver CS that I got used. Although it was not made for me, it was made for someone with a similarly shaped head. The brim is slightly smaller and the crown is probably a little lower (I need to measure to be sure). It looks a whole lot better on me than my Fed III did, which not only had a slightly taller than spec crown for an Indy hat, it had a crown that is way too high for someone with a 55 cm/6 7/8th size head.Indiego Jones wrote:Not trying to advertise our work, just sharing a personal experience.

Like you said the hat needs to be proportioned to the wearer.

Re: Height of the hat
i have been told that my todds downtowner (version one) has a very high crown , by my wife a, but in pictures it suits my face and looks good . i aslo have purchased another downtowner (version two) with the lower crown and that still looks good on me. and the hieghts on the first were nearly 5.5 inches in the front and the version two is about 4.75 inches on the front. but my wife like my uptowner cause the crown is lower still and i like it enough but not as much as the downtowner. ( i know , i know , shut up anbout the todd's hat , right?) no never .
