New LL Bean "close enough" boots...

I got a catalog from LL Bean Signature the other day, they have some new ankle boots that look very nice. Look fairly 405ish to me, other than the cap toe and the lack of speed hooks.

Might have to give these a whirl when I get the money, because I'm digging that cap toe and nice dark brown color.

That looks like a dressier version of the steelworker boots I got from them a few years back. They look great, and if they wear anything like the older model, you'll be in for a treat.
Dang it! This means I have to spend MORE money!

You might as well save a little more and get the real deal

Don't want the real deal. I have Magnoli's.
I just like the boots.

Me? I already have the real deal, I just think these are an interesting variation on the look.
Funny enough though, $195 is about what I paid for my Aldens, back in '99...

I just got two pairs of shoes from L L Bean and am really happy with both of them. I have no doubt these are excellent boots. The solid, genuine leather sole is beautiful and looks like top quality. I have no doubt they can be resoled. They look very period correct for 1920-30's work wear and Indy-esque impressions, which is my main area of interest.
They'll be slippery though - I'd think about getting some of the Vibram rubber adhesive traction pads for the soles. Most good shoe repair shops can do them.

Here's another pair from Lands End Canvas that look pretty spot on to me. The only problem is that the color seems a little dark. They have rubber soles. Lands End Canvas has sales pretty often, so now may not be the time. If you wait a bit, these might be a steal.
Edit: Here's a code for 25% off and free shipping: 25% off Everything L.E.C. with code: SAVE25 and pin: 1231. I think that code ends today, though.

It's shame they only come in 'D' width, though. MUCH to wide for my feet, but that's just about the way it always goes with boots other than the higher priced versions.

Nice, they look almost identical to the JCrew Aldens. Thank you for the link

Just got a pair of the Lands End boots/shoes. (they are more like high shoes than boots) Very disappointed. Leather looks and feels like plastic and the hooks bent the first time I tried to wear them. I have a pair of the LL Bean engineer boots and they are terrific. I've worn them for casual wear as well as a hike on a very rocky trail and they serve well in both venues.

P.S. My LL Bean boots are the Ironworker boots, not engineer boots. Sorry 'bout that. Oh, and by the way, the Lands End shoes are very dark brown and the stitching on the toe is purely decorative and almost white in color. All in all, the Rockport Farnums I've got are much better quality, very comfortable and I got them for around the same price. Unfortunately, I don't think they are available anymore.

I saw these "Maine Lodge" boots in the recent LL Bean winter catalog:

Kinda chunky but they appear to be high quality and have good reviews.

Yeah, I kinda really dig the look of the other version, the cap toe Maine Lodge boots, but there were some bad reviews about the heel falling apart, or something?

For what it's worth, the Ironworker boots are made in America by Chippewa. The Lodge boots (both versions) are imported.
