What a beautiful design, Gio! I love the color combination and the contrast you achieved with the different elements.

Yes indeed, beautiful design. Its nice to have people here in Europe engaging in the art of whipcraft and producing results like these.

Bravo!

Gio, your whips are quickly becoming some of my favorites.
It's nice to see some original designs and color combos (seriously, how many DM clones can you look at before they all start to look the same? :Plymouth: )

Hi Guys,
thanks a lot for your kind words.
Your critics and your compliments are for me the right mix to do even better.
As I wrote months ago, in my opinion the only way to grow more and more the art of whipmaking is to build different style of whips and different design.
All the best and Happy 30th Anniversary!!!!!!!

Does it feel kind of top heavy? The fall looks much heavier than the point of the whip. On the same subject, what is the diameter

of the point of the whip? looks pretty small, and I'm not saying that's bad :TOH:

Hi riku,
Thanks for your compliments, :TOH: I measured the two sides of the whip with the digital calliper, these the results:
End of the thong (the point of the whip ) is 6,9 mm
Width of the fall 7,1 mm
I hope that this information will works for you
All the best

I've been told by many people that the fall should either be equal to or smaller than the point. Can you cut it some? It'll help.

hi Riku,
thanks for your reply i've seen aka lelec's whips collection: he has about twenty beautiful whips made by the most famuos whipmaker such as morgan, strain, del carpio, nolan and many more.
Re. the fall i can assure you that the role you mentioned the fall should either be equal to or smaller than the point is not always true.
in any case this small diference doesn't modify the whip performances.
Hope it helps
all the best

Perhaps, if the difference was bigger, it would make the fall jerk violently. It would be interesting to know how much difference they can bear and still crack well, though... :-k

In any case, it doesn't matter much, because in the end, the fall hitch makes that part where the fall and the end of the braiding meet bulkier, and whips seem to work Ok despite this disruption in the taper.

Just a thought.

The point of my whip is about 6mm ( rougly ) and I had a fall that was about 7.5mm on it and it made it terribly jerk. So I shortened

the fall about 2 inches, to the point where it was about 6.5mm wide, then I beveled the edges until it was 6mm wide, it fixed

problems.

Aldo, that would be a good experiment to post on your blog, how much wider can the fall be than the point of the whip, and still

not jerk terribly. Make them in 1mm wider increments ( or whatever you want ) and try em.

Jeremy, there are so many experiments I want to try out! :D The problem is, how should I make them cost conscious...? I think the part I like the most about whipmaking is experimenting. :whip:

But I will think about the way to set up the experiment on fall width.

Thanks,

Aldo.

I suppose you could make a regular ole fall, starting @ about 9mm wide, with a whip point of 5 or 6 mm, test it out, cut off and inch

so that you lose a little bit, then cut off and inch, and go from there, recording the reaction at each one. I know it wouldn't

be 100% consistent, being the fall would be different lengths, but it wouldn't cost much, and i suppose it would work?
