Gussets Confirmed
Zohar grabbed a good shot of the gussets this morning from the new Raiders DVD.
This particular jacket, one of the 42 made by Peter for the films, seems to have had the one piece design as opposed to the two piece 'Jagger Lips' gusset included on Terry Leonard's stunt jacket and seen by a gearhead in SoCal that is now but a ghost here at Indygear.

Better yet. Here is Zohar's picture from the "Well of Souls". Just to be clear, there are 2 sections to that gusset, not one.

Having looked at both the Well of Souls pic and the Truck Chase pic...it seems that there might be jackets in the film with both the one piece and the two-piece construction. The gusset pic when he is on the truck looks just like my one piece gusset, and given the design of the FS gusset I believe that had that jacket had a two-piece construction, it would have been clearly evident in that shot. The well of souls shot is a little ambiguous in my eyes, and I feel it could support either theory. Are there no more scenes in the film featuring his gussets!?

20 Piece Gusset Revealed!!!!
There are so many pieces to this special gusset that the seams are very difficult to see, but with spaceage, new fangled, computer-assisted, photographic equipment to enhance this picture, it is obvious it is composed of no less than twenty pieces.
You read it here first folks.
We can safely close the door on this story.

I can confirm that the gussets in the Indy films were all of two piece contruction, I can alsso confirm that some of the jackets had gussets and some did not which is why it confuses and causes controversy.
One must remmber that the jacket seen in the films was not one jacket but several. It was only partway through the first film that we were asked to provide extra jackets with gussets for the fight sceenes but as a film is shot out of sequence jackets with and without gussets keep reappearing.
All the stunt mens jackets had gussets whilst most of Harrison Fords did not. Without doubt when making the film the continuety dept never envisaged that 20+ years later they would be so well scrutinised. Especially H.F's arm pits
Hope that helps a little
Cheers
Peter

Yes, it's time for Monty Python.rick5150 wrote:Without doubt when making the film the continuety dept never envisaged that 20+ years later they would be so well scrutinised. Especially H.F's arm pits
We are an odd bunch when you look at us from a certain perspective, aren't we
We are knights of the round table, ....."
"We're Knights of the Round Table,
We dance when ere we're able,
We do routines and chorus scenes
With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Camelot,
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot.
We're Knights of the Round Table,
Our show are formidable,
But many times, we're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable."

Thanks for the laugh To create an Indy-Monty Python link, I have a few of the box sets and there are some really great large brimmed, high-crowned fedoras in some of the skits. Due to the proximity to Herbert Johnson, I cannot say that it is out of the question. I believe that they are gray... I will try to get screen shots if possible...

Just in case somebody questions the connection of Monty Python and Indiana Jones:

In my opinion the gusset is in the flying wing jacket. The picture that MK posted is from the wrong angle. The gusset starts right at the seam that runs along the bottom of the sleeve and runs towards the back of the jacket. You can't see the seam in the picture. If you can't see the seam, you can't see the gusset. So far all the gusset shots are seen from the back of the jacket, not the front. I did post the exact place above where you can see the gusset in the flying wing sequence and unfortunately nobody's posted a pic of it yet. Cheers
