So what is this... maybe an unused stunt whip with the steel cable core?

From what I've seen the stunt whips had a more flat heel knot. Just something that got plaited just to make it kind of look like a
whip for the split second you see it.

In the few pics I've seen of the stunt whips, the steel cable extended past the end of the plaited section and had an eye on the end of the handle to attach it to the stuntman's harness.
The whip on that webpage just looks like a cheapy you'd find on ebay.
I'm just not buyin' it.

I'm usually over in the jacket area, but I thought this looked off too. The handle is too long, the plaiting seems too coarse, certainly it wasn't anything Ford carried. Odd, huh?

I wondered if it was more likely a whip used in training as opposed to something that we see on screen?

Maybe that's it. The longer handle would be a bit easier to control I suppose. Maybe it was just one that they said, nah, that doesn't look right, and nobody used but it was laying around.

I didn't know Jrzjoe made some of the whips for Raiders of the Lost Ark...
Aldo.

All very suspicious here. First of all that whip pictured on the Bonhams page is not a whip from any of the films - stunt whip or otherwise - and the whip used in the dragging scene was a Morgan (or at least a Morgan braided over cable or safety line). The whip pictured is not even close.
Second - why would the special effects supervisor end up with a whip anyway? They were Glenn's whips and then the prop dept provided the rest following his request. The special effects guy probably wouldn't even be involved with anything unless there was a specific gag that required him to be there and the whip wouldn't fall under his department. The cable covered whip perhaps - but I don't see a cable in any of those pics and Morgan made the cable covered whips as well and the pics certainly don't look like David's work to me.
And the Idol on the auction? Not one from the film either. That is not the idol with the eyes used in the film - and backup stunt prop - maybe - but even that is a stretch. And again - all of this would fall under the prop dept not special effects.
I call shenanigans all over the place unless we see some much better pics and info.

I have the catalog. The better the pics the more you'd call shenanigans. It's hard to imagine the idea of someone paying up to $50K for what is clearly "off".

This thing is crawling with Shenanigans. More Shenanigans here than bugs in Willy's hair.

Should clear them bugs up right away.

Found this link over in the grail diary section. I don't know how many whips were used in the truck chase scene but at least the one in this video can show what they looked like (assuming of course that its the real deal).

Hmmmm....
After watching that video, I'm not sure.
I had been looking for pics of that particular stunt whip (couldn't find it on Propstores website anymore). In the video, the screen used "whip" has a long handle, thin thong, and a cracker attached to the end of the braided portion. Very much like the whip shown at auction.
However, the auction whip does not appear to have the cable exiting the end and the harness loop at the butt. Need more info......
However, I still think that Idol is BS!
(It's spraypainted gold with GREEN eyes!
)
