Club Obi Wan

In TLOEG Sean connery sports what I consider to be a rather nice leather sleevless jacket/waistecoat. I was wondering if anyone out there knows who made the jacket (could it be Wested like everythign else) and if anyone else thinks this would make a nice light weaight alternative to an Indy jacket in hotter parts.

I HAVE to believe it's one of Peter's, Ken, as he's the one Connery usually goes to for his costuming jackets. Wested is also known far and wide (well, in your neck of the woods, at least) for shooting vests in the skeet and clay pidgeon sport. If that's the case, I bet it's lambskin. Why don't you drop Peter a line and ask? I'd be interested in hearing what he tells you! Regards. Michaelson

I was gonna point out this movie in the 'is HF too old' thread.

Connery who is I think 12 years older than Ford plays an Indy like character (yes I know that character predates Indy ) and doesn't make a fool of himself. He comes off pretty well.

I e-mailed Peter a few months ago about that vest but I did not recive a reply. I am also interested in where it came from.

Too bad the movie itself wasn't so great. "Better than Raiders of the Lost Ark" my behind!

Yeah, too bad the movie wasn't as good, although I liked Connery as Quatermain (but I always saw Henry Jones senior in my mind ).

I liked the LXG-comic books much more ... but that is becoming off topic now

Got a reply from Peter - no Wested did not make anything for TLOEG nor do they have any plans to replicate anything from it in the future. A bit of a shame there.

I would have thought it was Wested also. I will say this, that was the worst Sean Connery movie I have ever seen, although he still did a great job.

Then you have obviously never seen Zardoz.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Only redeeming quality of that movie, I got college credit to watch it as part of a film class.

Just to resurrect this thread, now the DVD is out (and I heard it went into a lot of depth in the costumes, but havent seen it myself) do we know who made the leather vest Sean Connery wore yet?

For what it was... it wasn't a bad movie.

I enjoyed LXG. For being a retro/period/action movie it was pretty good. It definitely will surpass the upcoming "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" which looks like rather cheesy B movie to me (though I will still watch it on the big screen).

LXG, it was very bad, I belive that Connery should choose better his projects.
Since in Hollywood they are ended the imagination, and they begin one to do comics adjustments, at least that make them more decent.

The comic if it´s good

I really enjoyed the film; I've not read the comics mind you and I thought the idea of having a ton of literary characters as superheroes was a great one! Rather weak ending though.

As per the vest, it looks a lot like a WWII Dispatch riders vest--My dad has an original (brought back to life with a good dose of Pecards--Thanks Michaelson!) and I'll try sometime to get some photos up.

If you have the time, try to read them. These comic books are absolutly worth it! Greatest story I ever read in comics (besides the DC Hitman).

Just wondering how you can tell that LXG will be better then Sky Captain? I've only seen Trailers of the flick... and for me this is the only film I'm actually looking forward to this year. It's rare that I'm able to judge a movie by it's trailers... I actually thought that Secondhand Lions was going to be some touchy-feel Good Coda for the Politically Correct Crowd until you recommended it to me...

I don't want to turn this into a SHL (Secondhand Lions) thread, but it's one of those movies that everyone has to see.

You can have an incredible love story with out having an over-the-top sex scene, and you can have action with out gobs of Blood strayed all over the place. It's a Guy Movie with Heart.

It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? Here’s another news flash… young people can actually hang around their elders and actually show the respect for them that they deserve and not be thought of as square.

I thought LXG was pretty good, as long as you aren't looking for some great period piece. You just have to keep in mind that you're watching screen renditions of early science fiction characters, sit back and enjoy it. I thought Tom Sawyer was a poor addition, though.

If you want to read the comics, you can get both series from Barnes and Noble's online store for about $30 total. The stories are great, and the art even has a late 19th centruy feel to it. Just don't let your kids read them series before you do, as it does get into some things better unseen by youngsters.
