I just received my Wested ROLA Goat...

Post by bobcatmvp1 »

And this jacket is the impulsive buy caused by the Magnoli goat I purchased not long ago described here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=51620" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And I have to say, this jacket is far superior in terms of leather quality. I feel ashamed that I spent over $500 on the Magnoli. The goat on the Wested is soft, dark, and drapey. The Magnoli is plasticky, glossy, and really reminds me of a pleather jacket I had in high school. I bought some Indy gloves from Magnoli and they are fantastic, but my jacket didn't come out nearly as nice. Oh well, live and learn. I am 6'2" about 185, so I ordered a 42 with 26.5" sleeves, and a 27" back and it fits real nice. I figured the back and sleeves will shrink so I went just a little long on both. There is one mistake though. I received D-rings whereas my order states black oxide sliders (or a dark color slider). Is there anyway I can have them sent to me and I can put them on myself? Will they send them for free?

Thanks for any advice,
Billy

One of Wested's selling points is that they use many different kinds of skins. Mag's trump card is that his leather technician will customize your jacket using all your specs. The main point is that you received the jacket that was best for you.

Glad the wested is what you were after! Buttttt...Didn't Magnoli offer to distress it for you? If it's not for you that's fine, but if a mistake has been made on Mags part and he's willing to fix it should he be drug through the mud? Heck, I'm your size spot on...I'll give you $200 for it right now sight unseen!

A Magnoli goat Raiders jacket...post the dimensions of the jacket. If it will fit me...I'll give you $205.00, and I'll throw in an autographed picture of myself!!!

Top that offer.

You can have my Pug puppy Baxter!!!!

In all seriousness, you should take Magnoli up on his offer. Or just sell it. Either way the problem can be fixed.

Ok, well, I'll post specs of the jacket in a bit as well as a photo or two. Can anyone answer my question about the sliders?

I doubt that Wested would send the sliders out to you, but would advise asking them about it directly, since you'll get a direct answer then..Call them perhaps? They make mistakes of this type at times and it's just the way it is (mostly) unless you send the jacket back to them perhaps...

Or you could find the sliders you like elsewhere and fit them for yourself....

Best bet would be to call Peter and ask personally...

Ok...you are going to HATE yourself if you get rid of that jacket! Throw it in the washer, wipe it with alcohol, do SOMETHING to it. It just needs breaking in. It is an awesome looking jacket. Goat is tough, very tough, bit when this thing breaks in its going to be awesome!

I only see D-rings on this site. Any one know a place to get black sliders....if Wested doesn't come through.

I see what you mean by the rectangular rings, I guess I meant a different thing. I wanted a black slider like the one that is on my magnoli, it is just a single piece of metal, instead of 2 separate rings. To be honest, in the end, I just want whatever is most SA in regards to Raiders. Any input?

That's one of the most rugged, least plastic looking goat jackets I've ever seen. It must be the feel you're referring to. It already looks like it's been close to H*** and back.

I have to say, that Magnoli goat jacket looks pretty awesome from where I'm sitting. Still, I know what you mean about the feel of some goatskins. If you like the Wested better, then there you go. You won't have a very hard time finding a happy home for that Magnoli jacket.

Here you go. http://www.hardwareelf.com/elf/rings.jsp Fourth one from the top.

I say you send that jacket back to Mags and have him distress it before you decide to sell it.
I bet it would come back a much different feeling jacket.

I'll just echo what the dudes above said.......That jacket rocks dude!!!.....

My first reaction to my SL Legend was pretty much the same and for similar reasons, but now it's broken in and moulded to my body more, I'm so glad I kept it and it's easily my fave Indy jacket......Give it a chance...

I wouldn't....give up the goat :P too soon! Mags is one of the easiest guys to deal with. Basically, the hard part is out of the way. You've made your selections, sent in your laundry list, paid the money and waited for 2-3 mo. Work with it a little and see if you can't whoop that goat into shape, either you or Mags? I'd highly recommend sending the jacket back to Mags, and let them distress it for you. You'd be surprised at what they can do. I'll try to get a few pics up so you can see their work...

I've heard that both the sliders (like on your Magnoli) and the rectangular rings (like on the Wested) were both used in Raiders and both are considered SA.

I think the Magnoli jacket looks awesome - the hide looks a bit like than on my older 2006'ish or so Wested goat jacket, which is somewhat more stiff and heavyweight than their current goat hide. Is your Magnoli a heavier jacket than your Wested?

If it fits, I would definitely keep it. Or sell it to me, it's just about my size. ;)

Nope, my Wested is heavier. The Magnoli is paper-thin and stiff as a board. Even after getting it wet, and rolling it into and ball and putting it under my mattress.

being based in the UK its Wested all day long for me. have 2 x jackets by them - a wolverine and a raiders and both jackets are 10/10. i wouldnt go anywhere else for a leather except maybe Nowaks. problem with buying from the states is the duty you pay which makes them not worth it.

I would buy from Magnoli again without a doubt. I have a LC from him and it is the best constructed jacket I own. The leather is goatskin and it is awesome. little plasticy at first but it goes away with wear. now it is just awesome. the leather and color really remind me of those G-1's.

Very nice jacket. If you can receive your jackets through regular USPS, I'd advise it. Just received one through DHL and had to pay the fee.
