Nylon paracord

I've worked with the stuff before, and i'm making one as a friends first whip ( i recommended him nylon even though he was dead

set on leather because he's not really the type that keeps up with maintenance )

Well before what i used was 550 paracord from supply captain, since then i've found other places that sell paracord for cheaper.

I don't know what i should use however, 550 paracord or 650 paracord, the only difference i know of so far is that 550 has 7

inner strands and 650 has 4 inner strands. Is there any other difference than that? If not i'll get the 550 because it's cheaper

plus i'll get more popper cord :-k

You should use 550. Not only is it cheaper, its also smaller by a good bit. Smaller, and thinner. Since its thinner, it'll lay flatter. Its just better all around. My input.

650 paracord is wider?

edit: never mind on that, i just finally found something that gave a solid answer. The outer sheath is the same, the inner strands are

the only difference, what i was hoping for.

This shows pictures of the two paracords. I was right/wrong. It is thinner, just not as much as I remembered. Funny how time skews our perspective.

lol, well there's proof enough, the company that said the the outer sheaths were exactly the same was kind of wrong

It also depends an who produces the paracord, I have seen some 650 that is the same size as 550 but have also seen 650 that is a little bigger than 550. The main difference though is the center core strands.

I've never used 650 (mainly because I'm cheap), but, have noticed size variances between different batches or colors of 550 all purchased from the same vendor.
It has never been by much, but, I can always tell the difference when loading the BB cores.

I have used 550 and 650 and I saw no difference in the size. However different colors are different sizes.
