About a month ago, I read this post by wwhisko
I was like, "What?!?" I then went to their website and found this little tidbitI just ordered the newer WARING & GILBOW MK VII bag they're offering. It's more expensive, but they claim it's more screen accurate. I'll let you know.
I was like, "What?!?" I then went to the main site where I readNOW AVAILABLE: We have a limited supply of bags made by Waring & Gilbow and marked W&G. According to legend, bags used in Raiders of the Lost Ark were from this maker.
Well, my birthday came and I acquired some disposable funds. I purchased the bag (even though I think that WPG might be taking advantage of the Gearheads weak wallet control), and it came on Thursday.Waring & Gilbow Ltd. Positively identified as one of the versions used in the films.
Designated by initials W&G, 1932 Ltd.
Production years: 1940–1943. Made respirator haversacks, as well as sundry other military supplies such as stuffable 'field beds'. W&G made most of their items from linen, rather than canvas.
First, I am struck by the quality of this NOS gear piece. It really seems NEW! I think it is absolutely Raiders to a tee. From the color (I'm sure some will not like the contrasting webbing and thread, but I love it!!)to the rough snap covers. I watched Raiders today (as I am want to do when a new item arrives) and the one thing I was truly struck by was how new the MK VII looked! If you watch the Cairo scene, everything else looks like its on its last leg. The bag however is PERFECT. Heck, even the rings the strap go through are shiny! Like super shiny! They are even shinier than the buckle. Anyways, enough of my blabber...Here's the pics
