Hi,

For what I think, do not buy a "brand", but buy shelac and let it melt in 95% alcool. Then spray it on your hat and let it dry....

Best regards,

Nico

If you're just doing a touch up or something, the Bickmore's Kahl hat stiffener is a good product, IMO. It doesn't discolor and does what it should.

I use a British made starch in a can along with an iron and it has turned a roll up fedora into a neatly crisp specimen!

Stiffener is an agent used to help keep the shape of the hat. If there was absolutely no stiffener in a hat, if would be a floppy mess! Likewise, cowboy hats use a LOT of stiffener to keep the shape solid and, well, stiff. Different amounts of stiffener in a hat body will allow for different levels of shaping or floppiness. When a brim or hat gets too floppy, applying some stiffener can help it to regain its "rigidity."
