I just joined the club and wanted to post some pictures of a new whip I just made. I make a few whips a year in my off season and someone told me this would be a good place to show them. This whip I haven't sold if you are interested please contact me.
The whip is made out of a red species hide, it's slender, has good action and cracks easily.

Username, welcome to the forum.
Can you tell us a bit more about the whip: how many plaits, and how long it is. Thanks.

The whip is 8 ft long with a 12 plait overlay. There are two 4 plait bellies both bolstered. The whip has an eight inch steel spike foundation; a 3 pass 5x4 turks head knot on the knob and a 2 pass 5x4 turks head knot on the transition point.
I think this whip would be good for someone with small hands or someone that prefers the knob to be smaller than a typical Indy whip knob as it is a slender whip all around.
Thanks for the welcome Doran, I assume you guessed this is Matt. I'm working on the overlay of your whip right now.
Matt

Nice work!
BTW I fixed the links to your pics so they post directly here.
Imageshack wraps all kinds of code around them which needs to get eliminated to have them show.

The whip looks great! I like the long, slender handle, and the long thin point. I still can't believe you put two bellies in it.
Have a great week, and welcome!

Very nice whip!
Just a question though; perhaps I'm seeing this inaccurately from the photo, but the fall seems a bit thick for the tip of the whip. How does it feel? Is it front heavy?
well done,
Franco

I was thinking that also, for a small tip indy whip it does look kinda small.

Yeah you guys are right, I cracked it tonight and it was a little top heavy. I shortened it and skived it to take out some of the weight.
Thanks

I like my falls on all my whips 30 inches-36 inches long. On my 6 footer i made recently, it was popping terribly ( fall was somewhere
between 22 and 24 in. , don't remember for sure ) then i put on a 32in. fall, and now it's much easier to crack. My 8 ft. has a fall
about 34in. on ( popper replaced once ) and it pops way better than when i had a short one on it.

Darn, too bad you shortened it; I'm guessing you could have cut it off at the eye, cut a new eye and re-size it. On 8-10' whips I like a fall around 33", but it has to have a good taper.
Just as an aside, your fall should always be equal or even slightly smaller than the point of the thong. This is easily checked by measuring the width of the thong, turning it 90 degrees and measuring again (presumably the resulting number should be the same on a round thong...) then divide that by two and do the same equation with the fall: measuring the width + the thickness and dividing it by 2. The result of the fall has to be equal or lower than the one gotten from the thong, otherwise the fall is too big for that whip.
Everyone has different preferences for everything so this is just my take on things, but I've had falls that were 33" long that ended in a point only slightly larger than the cracker and boy did that thing work! No effort at all to crack and plenty of length to do wraps with. You can make it a bit shorter if you prefer, but I wouldn't go much shorter than 30". Provided it is well stretched and with a good taper, the transfer of energy from the thong to the fall will be very efficient, resulting in very loud cracks. Better to have a long narrow fall than a short fat one.
Remember, everything must taper...
Thanks for sharing the pics!
Cheers,
Franco

Well I wouldn't go as far as to say worthless. Yes it's always more interesting with pics, but I've gotten into reading books that didn't have ANY pics and some of them are quite good actually
Cheers,
Franco

I was just joking, but when someone says "i just made this new indy whip. It's AWESOME. Well, bye"
The first thing people ask is: "any pics?"

I'll post more pictures but it won't be for a little while; probably won't make another whip until fall or winter.

That's ok, I was just joking. Please don't feel pressured to do anything, we want it to be a pleasing thing to do. But like you said,
won't probably make one till fall or winter.
