The sad part is, that is still better looking than some of the leather "Indy" jackets I've seen on fleaBay lately......

The jacket doesn't look terrible for $40.

That's what I was thinking. And the items on that site are clearly not for prop/gear enthusiasts, but rather for costumes. I'm pretty sure anybody who knew who Indiana Jones is would recognize someone with that jacket, that bag, and a hat as dressing up as Indy.
However, that's about all the stuff on that site is good for

If you get all the Indiana Jones costume pieces on that site, you'll have a much better costume than an Indiana Jones jumpsuit you might have found in the 80's. All the same, it's gonna cost you $120 to buy all that @#$% for a full costume. That money would be better spent getting an Akubra, or even a DP and piecing the rest of the costume together in the back of the closet. Who doesn't have khaki pants, a button up shirt and a brown leather jacket somewhere in their house? Even if you don't wear hats or have no interest in this hobby, the Akubra has some resale value.

And that's assuming they'd even wear the hat more than once. It is what is is, a decent
party costume. Most folks will probably make do with items they have around the house, but or the rest of them, well, there's been a LOT worse!
Vinyl or not, for the price and one-time wear, it looks like a decent option. Then again, you could always come to the Queen Mary Summit and pick up a clearance jacket from Tood's Costumes for $40 like I did. What's more, the kid who got it for Christmas hardly takes it off!

I have to agree, as costumes go, that stuff isn't that bad for what it is, and it's cheap. For somebody who does want to make an Indy costume (as opposed to collecting SA Indy gear) their thing for Halloween and theme parties, they could do worse than getting than getting that jacket, bag, whip and a DP somewhere, and then over time get more accurate stuff. Your average party goer will recognize the costume, mission accomplished, and it's something to build on.

It looks way worse in person, though. Each year that I break out my Indy gear (or, rather, assemble it all at once, since I wear parts of it regularly), there's always some guy with one of these cheap-o costumes or thrown-together ensembles. Heck, the VERY FIRST year I did it ('98 or '99) I had a bomber jacket, WAY inaccurate leather shoes, a khaki shirt, a modern gas mask bag, and a lame costume whip and I STILL looked better than the guy in his aussie bush hat, light grey Dockers, and blue-and-white striped button-down shirt. He tried to steal my hat, too.
The last few years...it's not even a challenge. I feel kind of bad for these guys who show up at an event where I or some other serious Indy-gearhead shows up at in one of these things. Talk about invidious comparison...

In no way would I expect a Halloween costume site to meet our standards of the gear, but I'm sure you guys knew that already.
..party on, Garth!
