Magnoli Raiders Goat

This update is long overdue.
First of all, this is a CUSTOM jacket. The specs are not Magnoli's standard specs. I made a lot of changes and they are all specific to my body type. I have a super long torso.
I ordered my Magnoli Raiders goat a couple of years back and it has been a strange jacket in my experience. When I first got it, I was surprised how thin the goat was for how strong and stiff it felt. I knew I would have to put it through the ringer in order to break it in. So I did the washer dryer method. The jacket shrunk up about two sizes. It started out at about a 44L and ended up a 40R. I was about to give up on it when I decided to get it wet again and see if I could stretch it out. I decided that the dryer would be a bad idea this time, so I just hung it up wet and pulled all the panels with my hands. MAN did it stretch out. By the time it dried, it was a little BIG on me! And stiff! I put pecard boot oil on it and it soaked it up so fast I decided to put more. It drank up a whole 8 OZ bottle! I couldn't believe it. But now it feels and looks new again, but softer than before.
This is my favorite jacket I own
Enough talk... Here's the pics.
BTW, the hat in the pics is my AB Deluxe Grey "Kaplan Jr." w/ bound brim by our good friend Marc.

Gorgous acquisition, my friend! Enjoy the heck out of that jacket. From my perspective, your search is over. You have a perfect Indy jacket that's beyond 'costume'. It fits YOU!
HIGH regards! Michaelson

I like that one. It reminds me of my Magnoli washed lambskin!

I have Mag's LC jacket in goat and I know what you mean about that type of leather. Relatively thin but strong.

My jacket quest is only half finished. Once I steal Holt's jacket...
THEN it will be over.
Anyway, thanks! I'm just glad it fits again. I thought for sure it was a lost cause.
So everyone who has shrunken your jacket seemingly beyond repair, try what I did. Get it wet and stretch every panel while it hangs up to dry slowly. Then douse it in conditioner.

That a really great jacket. If I ever buy another it seems that Magnoli would have to be given top consideration. That would have to apply to non-Indy jackets as well.
I love that you put your jacket through the ringer, had miserable results but did not give up on it. Your jacket captures the spirit of an Indy jacket on many different levels.
Kind regards,
dcmj!

Coronado and Tundra, thanks!

I like it more than any jacket I own, but I still has a lot of breaking in to do. It's stiffer than both of the G&B and Wested Auth goats I have owned. In the next few years I expect it to get even better.

Hmm... this is interesting! What is your opinion on the G&B Vs Magnoli's?

I think that with both you get a truely high quality jacket. By that I mean, premium leather, perfect tight stitching, and some SA features.
If you order a G&B they will take minor requests such as swapping the zipper for another color, and maybe sleeve length. They have OTR sizes regular and tall. I just read that they have a 2-3 month lead time currently.
A Magnoli is made to measure, so it takes longer (mine would have shipped much sooner than the time frame that Magnoli had quoted me if I hadn't had them change stuff). But the benifit is, you get a jacket with all the little specs you want. I have a jacket on order with Magnoli right now. I gave a laundry list of specs, and he sent me pictures from the fatory of every spec with a ruler held against the seam. Then when I didn't like the way the collar was sitting and the back pannel was too tapered, they took the jacket apart and re-did it, and sent me pics again. I still didn't like the back panel so they are currently fixing it AGAIN. You see, this is all before the jacket was even sent to me.
Do you get that with many other jacket makers? Can you imagine how much more money Peter would make if he did that?
Every time I look at my Magnoli Goat, I think "That's the jacket." I really mean it.
But anyway, that's been my experience.
