US Wings SL Legend USA after a bath

When my USW arrived, I was hoping for a little bit more striations than I got. I decided to get the jacket wet and lay it flat to dry for a while. I put it on a bit while drying to get the arm wrinkles right. This thing really really takes a long time to dry. It's still slightly damp on the inside in these pics.

BTW, the hat in the pics is my AB Deluxe Grey "Kaplan Jr." w/ bound brim by our good friend Marc.

that is a very nice looking jacket. Kinda makes me regret not getting one. It looks very...."sustantial"....is it heavy? If gets too hot and humid downhere in South Texas for any real jackets.

Yeah, this thing is definitely heavy. I used to live in the southwest I could never have worn it there.

I like how that turned out kaplan, lookin good.
By the way what method did you use to get it wet, ie washer or shower and how wet did you get it. Thinin of doin the same to my SL, just need some warmer weather, come on summer....

Shower. Definitely use the shower. The washer, even on the most gentile cycle would really beat this jacket up. It may be thick, but it's fragile, IMO. I had good results just letting it sit out to dry. It's taking forever, but it's not destroyed or shrunken beyond comprehension. I've put my Magnoli Goat in the dryer the first time on no heat, and it still shrunk. The second time, I let it hang up to dry, and it returned to normal. Hanging up a USW SL while wet may give you big shoulder bumps from the hanger though, so beware.

Thanks, I'll probably go the shower route once we get some warmer weather.
And of course that shinny thing in the sky called the sun.

Croft...at the behest of those around you, it has been suggested that you NOT wait for warmer weather to go the shower route... :-0 ;)

Yeah, you can tell in the second pic how the jacket maker did a great job matching up the two front pannels. When it came, that texture around the zipper was ironed out and not very visable.

Well I took it out of the bath (used hot water, seeing if it'll shrink a bit) man was it ever heavey. Let it drip for a bit in the sun then put it on and took the dog for a walk. Worn in the house while trying to think how I was going to hang it up for the next few day's.

Then it hit me, I just picked up the upper torso w/arms and hands, of a mannequin.
Heres my solution to.....Kaplans coment:

A benfit to working at a clothing store part time.

Now if our room mate doesn't wake up and shoot it. Now that'll be one SA jacket.

Well... assuming it doesn't get shot at, I'll bet that'll look pretty GREAT once it dries out a bit, Croft!
Be sure to let us see.

yeah, Croft.... I wish I had that. Though, it would be difficult to explain the manniquin in the basement to some of my buddies. It's a big decision; explain that you dress up like Indiana Jones as a hobby, or come off as someone that wears people's skin as a hobby. I guess getting ripped on for being a dork is better than having a FBI file.

But anyway, that mannequin is going to make that jacket awesome. You HAVE to post the results.

Lookin' good, Kaplan! I've been toying with the "shower treatment" for my month-old Wested lamb -- I'm really enjoying wearing it as much as I can and allowing it to gain some character naturally, but getting it wet seems to really accelerate the aging process... I was determined to go the natural route, but seeing your results (as well as Croft's, tekors', etc.) I am reallllly tempted.

Nice mannequin, Croft. I should get me one of those.

Ok, here are some shot the misses took for me, not geared up, but oh well.
Now my jackest stiration were never as numerous as other jackets we've seen , but thats the way I perfer it any way, but it did give it some more character. Sleeves are still a tad long as they'll go past the infamous 1st nuckel of the thumb, so does anyone have an idea as to how to shrink my jacket. Thinking of getting it soaked again, throwing it in the dryer on heat for a short time, then back on the ol manequin.

Here are those shots, enjoy. ;)

Man that looks great Croft! The sleeves look just right to me. I would strongly advise against trying to shrink it. At this point, call it good and just wear it, and I bet the sleeves will end up where you want them all by themselves. Just my thoughts, for what they're worth. Great pics!

Ya I can wait, glad you like the pics, I've been showing no mercy on this one, seems to be able to take it and more.

Still I'll be going after another Lamb from Wested, going to use some of the specs from my Todds, Wings and get myself a light weight lamb for the summer. My todds is perfect except for sleeve length, could've been about 1" or so longer.

You might try stretching the sleeves Croft. Kinda like reversing a water treatment. I just did it to my Todd's Standard and gained several inches in the sleeves - more than what I lost in the shower treatment.

1 - Wet Sleeves ONLY
2 - Hang from something sturdy (shower rod?)
3 - Large Gatorade bottles or similar filled with about 1lb water in each. The sleeves are tapered, so the bottles should pass through the sleeves but get stopped at the cuff (Make sure to pull loose lining back up toward armpit or it will get bunched by the bottle at the cuff and hinder any room for stretching).
4 - Let hang till dry or mostly dry and then wear till dry.

I actually gained too much in mine, but I figure they'll creep up some in time and I mostly like my sleeves long so when I'm riding they don't end up at my forearm. Something kept telling me to take it down before it was completely dry and wear it, but I left it hanging until it was totally dry and now it rides at my knuckles when my arms are down at my sides.

cheers :TOH:
Mike

Now theres the idea I was looking for, actually when I first got my Todds, I got it wet and buched th sleeves, so by using your idea might just work, I'll try it.
Not sure how soon, probably as soon as I can get the bottles, Hmmmm I like it, Thanks.

Mr Croft,

I'd leave that jacket alone now...IMO...You're in the 'tweaking' zone...I reckon there's too much that can go wrong with throwing it into the dryer...and how much would it shrink?? You could end up with a Legend Keyfob!! :o ...

It looks awesome on you as is, again IMO!!  :D

Thanks Ian, ya I like to vent (no in an angry way) some, but in the end I don't need an expensive key fob.
Thanks for the compliment though, I do like this jacket and how it's looking, worst case scenerio is I gove it another bath, and then back on the ol manequin.

Not a compliment Sir...Tis a fact... :)

I've had my Legend since early this year and I haven't done a thing to it.....It's funny that at first there was talk that this jacket would distress quite quickly; In a matter of weeks; but mine still looks quite new...It's softened up certainly, but just through daily use; It hasn't scuffed or lost it's shiny surface...... :D
