My $5 Indy(ish) Gun

Woo hoo! Just finished up my gun for my Halloween costume. I know it's not film worthy, but it'll do.
The gun is a .357 squirt gun painted with Krylon black, with Ral Partha steel painted over it. The whole thing was filled with caulk, to give it some weight.
The holster was made from a $1 Naugahyde trhift-store purse. The post is a stud from a leather bracelet. Seems to work just fine.
Not bad for the price. They'll do just fine 'til I find a real one.

These painted plastic guns look really good. You have to look twice to see that it is not a realy gun.

Wow, that gun is awesome. Maybe you could do some more work with it to make it look more like an indy gun. And great job on the Holster too, I thought it was real.

Thanks for the kind words, guys!
I'm really pleased with the way the holster came out. I was REALLY excited when I found the purse (and a little uncomfortable buying it.
) But it was just the right color, and it has a nice leather grain to it. Plus, it was easy to cut up!
The squirt gun was a lucky find. I picked it up last month at a grocery store. They were clearing out their summer pool toys. Being that this is California, realistic-looking guns are hard to come by, so I bought two of these, one to use as a mock-up.
This was the last piece of my Halloween costume, so I should have some pics of the costume soon.

I will take some pics of the prototype I made first. I got the pattern off this site, and from many reference photos I got off the web and Ebay. I was hoping to find brass hardware for the flap, but no luck. I built the whole thing around the gun, and it was constructed in four pieces (the body, the flap, the belt loop and the strap). It was sewn together with brown upholstery thread. The base is open, because I couldn't figure out how to attach the base.

Way to be resoruceful and make your own holster. Looks Great! The squirt gun idea is fantastic... just think about it. You've got all of your gear, its as good as screen used, peoples jaws drop the costume is so good. Then you whip out the gun and squirt them in the face. Of course, some of em might freak out... I still think its hilarious.

I was considering that.
But since I filled my gun with caulking (to make it heavier, so the gunbelt hung better) I can't do that. Maybe I should get a Hi-Power squirt gun.
