8 gauge aluminium. Much more chunky than the Raiders zip. :)

Having used zippers of all sizes, could say that TOD zipper looks more like a 10 gauge rather than 8.
8 is slightly bigger than 5 that can't be noticed from a distance.

I read somewhere that the original Raiders jacket was aluminum, not nickel. Right or wrong?

(Nice Bud Spencer photo you have there, can we see it bigger please?)

Wested used aluminum zips. They were stunt jackets. The hero jackets (2) used nickel.
Why would they use aluminum in the stunt and nickel in the hero?
Both aluminum and nickel are priced same....

The stunt jacket that someone here has examined had aluminum zip? What about the jacket given to Mr Nowak?

I have to agree. The pics I've seen of one of the screen used ToD jackets had a VERY chunky zipper and a HUGE pull. It looked to be much larger than the #8 zippers I've had on some of my own jackets (Indy or otherwise).

Yes, back on topic.

A No5 Nickel YKK zipper next to a big (dunno if it is a 8 or a 10) aluminium alloy zipper. My Raiders next to my ToD.

I'm no metallurgist, the NH came with a white alloy zipper that is an excellent match to that one.

Fyi the M-65 field jackets have 10 gauge zippers. If you have one, compare with that to see if it's the same.

Both Spielberg and Ford confirmed this to multiple sources (including me) independently.
Does anyone know what happened to the cloth mock-up, if it still exists?

That slightly matt looking white metal that older biker jacket zips are made out of. Not the bright shiny nickel plate.

Perhaps it's another language mismatch.

Ain't THAT the truth. Try to find a vendor that will rechrome a car bumper for you these days.

When you DO find them, they are asking astronomical prices for the work, as they know they're the only game in town now.

I needed the grill on the Plymouth rechromed. I was quoted over $500 to get the work done. I ended up painting it black. :?

My Wested has a size 8 and my US Wings Legend has a size 5. No, you can't tell from a difference, but there's a significant difference in size and feel to me.

I don't know if it will help anyone now but a couple of weeks ago I talked to Peter about a Temple of Doom jacket.

Got the jacket allready, less than two weeks \:D/ . Big thanks to Zoltar for the prong sliders :TOH: Lovely dark lambskin =P~

Anyway Peter tells me that the TOD jacket dose infact have a 10 gauge YKK zipper with a big pull, the same as on many biker jackets. They have 8 gauge listed on there website but that is not correct.
10 gauge is what Wested use on there copy of Noel Howards TOD jacket, and is what I have on my Temple jacket.
The zip has 8 teeth per inch.

As for the metal, well I know my stuff as far as that's conserned and my jacket has aluminium teeth with a zink alloy pull. The box and starter are nickle plated.

Of course I have no way of knowing what the original had,but if it's the same EVERYONE is right on the material used :rolling: :rolling:

Actually this reminds me of the time.. many moons ago... when i visited Swales at HJ and then Noel at MBA. I was buying a bag from Noel and of course was bowled over with being allowed to look at AND TRY ON some actual screen used Indy gear. Although i was just a scruffy fan buying a simple bag, I was treated as an important customer and with the utmost courtesy and respect by Noel and his team (in contrast to my HJ experience). I remember making some remark along the lines of " thank goodness the guy who made the jackets isn't also in central London" - to which Noel replied " Ah yes, ..... Peter." It was an odd tone of voice. I've since met and had dealings with Peter and regardless of what gets written here, I really like the guy and enjoyed his company. But I have to admit, I sometimes wonder what Noel's tone of voice that day really meant.

Anyway, I digress. I have a pic of me wearing that TOD jacket somewhere - the zipper was pretty huge and the jacket was pretty much on it's last legs. And it fit like a glove!!!!!!!!!

CM, whiskyman said THE jackets not the jacket Noel Howard had exactly.

Peter said the Noel Howard jacket was "Cream Crackered" .

Also I've been looking at a lot of zips, thanks to this place . If you look on the zipper pull the guage size is nomally stamped or cast into it. ;)

I realy regret not getting into gear earlier and being able to meet or speak with Noel Howard, but I have got to speak to Peter and found him a very interesting person and happy to deal with questions and tell you what he's been up to,I look forward to meeting him in person one day.

Peter never made any jacket for ToD. Noel would never have said so, because both he and Berman confirmed repeatedly that Peter Botwright had nothing to do with Temple.

Do I need to clarify this point yet again? The same lies regurgitate through that fat turkey neck of his every few years...
It's cool, I know that. :TOH: I just thought the post was suggesting something else. Anyone who hasn't been following the plot closely can easily get thrown off course. I thought WM was presenting us a new detour.

Ah, no. I never mentioned any movies in particular (partly because way back then, I assumed Peter was the only Indy jacket maker). I was chatting to Noel about having just been to Swales and nearly spent a lot of money, and was now at MBA being tempted to buy more than just a bag - hence my comment that fortunately the jacket maker was not also in central London, because otherwise I would tempted even further.

Cool that clarifies things. Let's move on. I have a size 10 zip on my long half-belt. It's massive - I can't inagine it on a light, short lamb jacket.

What leather did you go with in the end Andy?

I love the dark lambskin I have,it has that almost black look we see in the jackets at times =P~ .

The zipper does look big,but it got me about a day to get over it.
It's just the pull that looks too big now,but I'm getting used to it :) .

All I need to do is get the newness out of it,but not the full "cream crackered" look the original is now has  .

I went for the goat, I plan to eventualy go the whole hog and sand the #### out of it. The goat sample I got had a great undertone and should be a bit more forgiving if I get carried away!

I got some dark lamb too, I bet your jacket looks awesome. I'm already working on an idea for that hide. ;)

No worries Patts I think were all used to you throwing one in every now and then.

Was the goat sample authentic or dark brown? Were the undertones not the usual Wested grey tone?

Good luck on the weathering Zoltar :TOH: . Going to give my dark lamb a quick shower to get the shine off...then see what happens from there.

I've got some nice red/brown undertones with the dark lamb, whats the goat like?

Think we'll have to start a "Show us you Wested TOD jacket" thread now.

BUT we must put a big disclaimer that Wested DID NOT make the original Temple jacket ;) .

That'd be great. I've been after a jacket with brown undertones instead of grey for sometime. The only one so far was my shrunken lamb Novak. Didn't care for the leather otherwise though.

Great pics! I wonder whether the dark brown goat has the same undertone as the dark brown lamb? I love the colour of the DB lamb - spot on for me - just not keen on lamb. Prefer the durability of goat. Hmmmm, may have to give Peter a call.

Glad you're enjoying the whip Andy! Hope to see some pics in the whip section!
