On a boot budget? Skechers close enough...

I found a great pair of close enough boots for dirt cheap. If you're looking for Indy on a budget, these are a decent and comfortable option. As far as looks go, they're fairly true to the period. I bought a pair for knocking around in and have no complaints.

Sketcher hold up pretty well. I bought 2 pair about 4 years ago and the first pair still have a plenty of life in them.

True, true. Skechers are usually a pretty dependable pair of kicks.

Agreed 100%! :M:

Youngest daughter (date_eating_monkey here) talked me into getting a pair last Fall. I have not regretted it one bit either!

I got mine at Peebles. Same scenario. They retail around $160....but after sales, and coupons etc., got mine for less than $40. You can always find good deals on Sketchers.

Well, Sketchers have quite a big line, but for Indy shoes, I skipped their boots and went with these, mainly because of the toe stitching. They are called Ripsaws;

Standing up, the pants cover the fact that they are not boots, so they worked out very well until a got something more accurate.

No confusion, DJ. We were only talking to the point that Sketchers are actually very comfortable shoes. I've seen more 'close enough' boots over the years brought to the table that looked great, but after being worn were reported on more than one occasion that the boots were EXTREMELY uncomfortable!

Sketchers are the opposite. They're good looking AND functional.

So, in this case you have presented some really good looking 'close enough' boots, and we're here to add that they'll actually serve the buyer well in terms of comfort over the long haul.

We're on the same page. :TOH:

Have you guys seen these Dr. Martens? They bear a remarkable resemblance to the 405's and right now are $91 on zappos. I have been really tempted to try a pair but I have just gotten a pair of red wings for the same price.

Must. Resist. Temptation. To buy online...

Honestly, I think in relation to the hobby, you chose better buying Redwings. At least they have provenance to the film, as they were the boots originally spec'd to be used in Raiders by the designer. Ford brought his Alden's to the party and the rest is history, but Redwings were the ones that originally got the nod.

In our world, they are the TRUE 'wannbe' boots of history, as they were ALMOST the boots on Indy's feet from the very beginning. The old 'what if'?

Got my pair tonight! :D Went down to the local JcPenny's and picked up the last size 13 they had ( I've got Yeti-sized feet ). Took the dog for a walk this evening to break 'em in - pretty comfortable right out of the box. They look very similar to Indy's Aldens, and the color is great, too - not too light, not too dark, and with a slightly dusty, weathered look to boot! ( pun intended, hehe :P ) And the price? :o  :Dietrich:  :notworthy: \:D/ Image

Nice work Solent. That "slightly dusty, weathered look" is what hooked me. In fact, I went back the next day and picked up another pair. At that price, I would have been wasting money by not buying another! :-s :-k

No worries, I was picking up what you were putting down. 8) I actually only meant to reply to wilbyc82 who was asking for a link (forgot to quote him in my post).

Spotted this pair of close enough booties at a local vintage clothing store. They might still be there if anyone is interested.

Close enough?!? No way, those are SA. I'm pretty sure Indy wore those to get the morning paper in his pajamas. :)

I had a pairt of those about 2 years ago. They were very comfortable. They tend to scratch easily though..............which I guess is good if you want a beat up look..

:notworthy: Hello Sage & Sober Knower of Things; Michaelson :M: , (or at least knower of things)

Yeah, an odd, idiosyncratic flourish to be sure. But I reckon, as they are less $$$ than I used to pay for a pair of sneakers twenty years ago, WTH, eh? How far wrong can ya' go?

We live in lovely Knoxvegas, babe! Or Knox-patch, every day is unique.

I landed here working from where I grew up in Athens, Ga. & now toil in our lovely States' system of higher education, in who's vineyards, as I seem to recall, you too labor. (HEY 1.6% after four years of... nothing! - \:D/ am I right?)

Highest regards to you, & thanks for your interest, my fellow Vol & member of the Academic Proletariat,

Greg

No such model available locally here. :(

I've never even seen a Skechers shoe here that wasn't a rubber shoe...

Wore my boots last night for the first time with the rest of the gear - couldn't be happier with the look and fit ( even caught myself admiring my feet several times!  ) Image
