Not an Indy fedora per say, and apologies if this is in the wrong section.

I went shopping today with a friend of mine, and we stopped at this place called the Windsor Market, and it's like an indoor flea market type situation except people just rent space and put their items in there, and when/if anything sells they just pick up the money. There are lots of handmade things and antiques and stuff.

Anyway, I spied this guy from across the room, and was overjoyed to find that it was in decent condition and in my size.

Ah! A Dobb's! VERY nice hat! That looks like it was made in the 1930's to me, based on the ribbon width and style. A rare example of the bow being installed at the BACK of the hat. You see that in style in films shot during that era too!

You did very good! Take care of that! It's a beauty!

Thank you! I'm very pleased with it, and am overjoyed at the positive response. I'm still fairly new to hats, but I've learned a great deal in the past few months.

My poor little brown fedora though...that thing has been beaten all to pieces. It's my go-to hat for any kind of adventuring.

Strider worked a little magic on the crown - gave it more of a teardrop indentation, somewhat more rounded than it is in the pictures up there.

I think what you're referring to is a bound edge. The stitched edge is called a "cavanaugh edge," I think.

A brim with a trim is indeed called bound; but the stitched edge is referred to as underwelt or overwelt depending on which way the edge is turned, up or down.

The Cavanagh edge is a finish where the edge is upturned and sort of welded; neither glue nor thread is used. This is a technique Cavanagh patented, but that was offered by some other manufacturers with other denominations ("selv-edge", for instance), to circumvent copyright questions. This technique has been long lost, such a thing being not cost-efective once the market for hats went down.

Besides that, I like the hat, back bow and all! Nice find!
