2nd leather whip

The 2nd leather whip that I have made. Its a 7'2" natural tan kip. I had the same problem on this whip that I had on my other kip hide hip. At the end I have a hard time keeping the braid as tight as it needs to be and I get some kinks where the core thins out. I use three strands twisted together for the core then a 4 plait belly, a bolster, six plait belly, a bolster and on this one I added another bolster to thicken it up a bit. Lastly a 12 plait overlay.
I think I need to ease up on the dressing on the overlay a bit so it doesnt darken as much. What can I do to darken up the knots? I heard somewhere not to use any lube while tying them or they might slip. Is that accurate?

I think it looks good. Especially for you second leather whip.
I never could get the hang of leather.

I've only ever worked with nylon, no leather yet, but I can say this looks much better than my second whip.

I havent been able to try it out much. Too cold and too much snow. I did manage a flick or too and a few reverse cracks in my basement. It did what it was told and thats about it. I also didnt use kip as I thought but a petite tooling side from Tandy. Im not sure what the differece is but there it is
