Another wested made with my specs....
This time in very dark thick lambskin. I got this jacket last year but I have not shown it off yet. I sent it back to wested for a touch up and she came back today...
the skin is very smooth and soft. it drapes like a wet towel now that it has broken in. perfect skin and color for some dark raiders scenes..which is actually very many of
the details are good. they followed most of my specs. it is not highly detailed like that Goatskin I got couple years ago but it is not THAT far away from it either. so I'm pretty happy.
what I really dig about this jacket is the long Raiders collar which sadley all modern wested lack. I actually think this collar is made better then the collar on my goatskin. and that says alot. it screams the ''temple'' scene collar when he runs away with the idol. or when he picks it up by dead stupido.
pockets are ok. they could be better but still nice. love the little label detail inside the jacket tho
sleeves are nicely tapered forearms with wider upper sleeevs. perfect for raiders.
the only thing I would like to have made different is the backarm seam. it lines up with the yoke seam. but since these are handmade they may vary, I understand.. it's a small detail afterall.. but oh so cool.. ah well, I have learned to live with it...
anyaways, here it is...

Nice jacket Holt, just how many do you have?. Me I now have three. ested Goat, Todds custom and my brand spakin new Wings. If I had as many jackets as you have, I wouldn't no which to wear.
One again, that one nice jacket, by the way what size do you take hmmmm, if ever there was ajacket with a high re-sale value it would be one of yours.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
to paraphase Holt's avatar " we are all weidos" I have 4 westeds, all different and when Peter releases his new veg tan lamb it will no doubt go up to 5. It would be 5 now if I can presuade Peter to part with the prototype he showed me a few weeks back, good to go, my size and perfect fit.
back on topic... a fine jacket as I flagged in another thread Wested still has it!

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
here is a close up of the pockets. they could be alittle better but when I think they came out pretty good. I love that they followed my pocket flap spec tho. nicely scalloped and that they are alittle wider then the pocket itself like it should be.
zipper is No.5 and ends at bottom.
EDIT.
now that I become used to the armseam lined up with the yoke seam I think it is actually pretty nice and clean looking.

I have to agree with you there. The way the seams line up makes the jacket look top shelf to me. And the zipper....nice.

Holt,I like the "leather concessionaires" lable by the inside pocket. Nice touch by Wested.
Just what exactly are the "Holt Specs"?
I can find the old "Agent 5 Specs" when I do a search but not yours

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
thanks. it's because my specs are not public. It's just too much. illustrations and diagrams.
I will give you an example.. look at the half shoulder seams drooping down on my back. this creates the 'of the shoulder' look. normal wested have them sitting on top of the shoulder. thats not how the real one was. lots of work went into that on my side... that's why I have not made the specs public. it's just too much to explain..
yeah, the label is one of my fave parts of the jacket.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I get you.
It's so different from Peter's standard pattern the jacket is more of a "Holt pattern" than a "Holt spec"(i.e.standard wested withe the odd tweek).

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
yeah, I know what you mean. my two first standard pattern westeds was always very god and I loved them but I always thought it lacked that little special magic thing I always saw in the film jacket. I think they did a great job recreating this magic quirk in my goatskin wested and this dark brown lamb wested.
like I said above, I really see this dark brown lamb like the one Indy is wearing above. yes, the pockets could be alittle better, yes the armseam should be below the yoke.. but hey! it is great jacket and a unique jacket and I'm really happy with it.

I'd say three to four months before that itch is gonna need scratching and you go back to Peter with some tweaks to the pockets and making sure the armseam is not lined up with the yoke

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
haha. lol. nope. it just came back from a zipper touch up. I'm not going to send it back again for them to take of the sleeves and place them lower. it'll come back cooler looking but weaker around the armhole seams.
Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
here is a little better picture of the pockets. niceley scalloped like the should be
peter did a great job.

The reason for why I went with his very dark brown lamb is one) the real one looked pretty much like this and two) the undertones is very brown/redish.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
lol.
the major change that needs to be done to get the magic raiders vibe is the collar. ask for them to make the collar alittle longer/wider. I only know how much extra collar length should be added to get the collar right in my size. So NO guarantes of how it will look on a medium jacket. proceed on your OWN risk.

Sweet jacket!!!!!! I guess it's about time I ordered another Wested!
Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I think the dark lamb is westeds BEST hide for raiders... The soft goat is a close 2nd IMO
Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Yep, it really is one of my favortie hides. that and the mid dark goatskin I have.
check out this picture. if this is not raiders to a T then I dont know. check out that long collar and how it droops down on the left side. man, Peter did a great job recreating THE raiders collar.
I know I said the pockets could be better after looking really close at them they are really good. I love the flaps.

Ya know Holt, maybe we'd get a better picture of what your showing us if maybe, ya know, kinda had on a tanish shirt (Indy style prefered) and some brownish pants on (Indy style prefered) in other words, gear up and show us your best HF impression.

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Hey, everyone. I just joined the other day and this is my first post.
I'm very interested in getting a custom Wested, and I have been really enjoying digging through all the lengthy discussions here. I think I'm zeroing-in on what I'd like, but the more I read the more I realize there are limitless options. I think my best bet may be to just wing it and get another one (or two...) down the road
Holt, I'm really liking your raiders in dark lambskin. Originally I had my heart set on a LC jacket, but I'm starting to really like the Raiders in dark lambskin...
I'm gonna dig around some more before I make my purchase, and I'll definitely let everyone know what I decide on before I drop the hammer. I'm sure I'll have a question or two along the way...

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Having seen Holts stunning Jacket I decided to go for one myself....I ordered a custom ROLA, in Worn-Hide, so not exactly what Holt used...But the same rough instructions, wider collar, (1cm or 2cm), and the "Leather Conc." label on the inside (Holt...Dude, GREAT idea..)
I think it should be great and will post photos of my version of Holt's great idea here!!
Thanks Holt.... Great!

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
I went for the predistressed Cowhide, since I'd like the Jacket to be slightly heavier than my Lambskin Jacket now.... The Novapelle looked good too, but it seems that the colours aren't so different to the "worn-look", so that hide works for my needs now...
I reckon it'll look okay, and since the two are fairly distinct in design and colouring I can get away with having two and not looking like a gearhead too much... (Impossible... My Girlfriend has seen me staring lovingly at hat sites for long enough to know by now...LOL)..

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
Holt...
Since I basically went from your own description, I think it would be just plain wrong not to post shots when it gets made...Will do so.
It's not exactly the same, since I have no ideas what you asked for, but I asked for 2cm wider collar, flap pockets extended over the pocket sides slightly and the inner label added... I didn't use the zipper change, since I like the darker type and I'm not overly worried about that being SA or not.. I think you may also have changed the shape of the pocket flaps? Added a touch more scoop to them? But I think that the Wested Raiders aren't so bad off-the-hook with those, so I left them alone this time..
If you have any more advice before the jacket starts being "worked on" by Wested, I'd love to hear it though! Since yours is what I'm aiming at in my head, and the sizes seem more or less about the same as mine.. I guess you'd rather keep most of what you asked for out of the thread, but perhaps you could let me know what you went with for the collar? Since I'd love THAT shape in particular!
PM works fine as well of course!
All the best, and thanks for making me envious enough to try this myself!
Yours.
Ben

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
cool.
this jacket is a year old soon... I wear it all the time, this one and my goatskin in the rainy days.
I have decided to go another route with wested. I have a really special project in hand and I am hoping this will create THE jacket I have been looking for. I think the skin will be an old dark brown redish lambskin peter used to carry and made jackets with in 1984-86(?) just a few years after Raiders. when all specs are done i'm hoping this will be that alusive jacket I saw back in the 1980's.
and thanks Noah

Re: Another wested made in the ''Holt'' specs....
you know, I wish I still was in the ''keep it simple stupid'' when ordering jackets but that train left years ago..
My best advice is to keep it simple, you will be more happy. but if you really are after SA be prepared to work with them alot. that's just the way it is..
the flaps extend alittle over the pockets yes, very little but enough. and the flaps are more scalloped yes.
