Question: Wested - Custom Fees?

I have read some older posts about SOME people having to pay custom fees when they received their Wested. My question is; are the fees due at delivery or are you billed? My order is being shipped to my girlfriends grandparents house and I don't want them stuck paying fees.

Randy,

I recently had to have my jacket shipped to my folks as we were out of town when it was due to be delivered. It was shipped to my name, c/o my dad's name at their address. My PBB Global logistics bill (a.k.a., customs/convenience fees) also was sent to their address under my name. Based on this experience, I would bet that the PBB bill will arrive at your girlfriend's grandparents' address.

Thanks for the info. I will let them know.

May I ask, how much was the charge?

$21.18

Customs Duty = $13.68
Disbursement/advancement of funds = $7.50 (this is PBB's take)

You've probably read something all about this in previous posts. Doesn't seem legal, but, right or wrong, most folks here just pay it. A question for the ages...

Just to chip in whilst my wallet is still stinging, those customs fees look pretty good to me right now - my Aldens came from the US to the UK and I had to pay an unexpected $100 COD.

In light of this, $20 or so for a Wested to the US seems quite reasonable!

"VAT - I hate these guys..."

$100 is a lot. Isn't that half the price of Aldens? That's some strict custom law you have there.

Yeah, it's a raw deal alright..........

I was shocked to get the bill COD when my Aldens arrived - it ALMOST soured the whole experience for me......almost  Our government here in the UK do love their taxes.................

Still, I do LOVE those boots. And as my good lady wife so wryly commented this morning, so I should at that bloody price.

:)

I heard the duty fees when shipping to Australia on a Wested are about $100 maybe more, as if they dont already pay enough for the shipping!.

As for PBB you dont owe them a dime. I still refuse to pay the last one I got, I just ordered another jacket, and if I get another bill, Im not paying it either. Period. Ive posted enought about this saga so email if you want details on how I circumvented it.

Ah! I'm afriad! I was hoping that maybe my jacket slipped through (My hat did; I did not need to pay taxes on that).

How long did that bill take Mr. Das?

It took about two months.

How did your hat get through? If it was shipped through UPS, purolator, or FedEx, the you've already paid shipping. Standard post mail sometimes lets it slide. I haven't figured out what the let slide, since I sometimes order expensive(over 100) and not get a charge and sometimes they nail me for a $10 DVD, which after the taxes and customs is almost as much as I paid for that DVD.

I have 2 theories on my hat getting through.

1. It just slipped through, plain and simple, as It WAS shipped through regular mail and I really dunno why didn't get charged

2. I was 17 at the time, and perhaps young folks are exempt from customs? though this does not make much sense as my Dad was the one who paid for it with his credit card....This theory is weak.

Perhaps I was just lucky!

If your hat had a declared value of $199.99 american dollars or
less, you will not have to pay any customs fees on it.

U.S. Customs charges a 6 percent fee to all packages entering
the United States that have a declared value of $200.00 american
dollars or more.

So, if your hat costs less than that, then you will not get a bill.
If it costs more than that, well, just give it time, and a nice
Customs bill will eventually show up on your doorstep. It
has nothing to do with the fact that you were only 17 at the time.
They will catch up with sooner or later.

I have seen people get bills 6 MONTHS after receiving their
original package!

I've heard of the 200 dollar mark in the USA, but I'm not sure what the deal is in Canada. I think it's similar...but I got my hat a LONG time ago and paid nothing, got nothing in the mail either.

Did you get your hat before September 11, 2001? It seems
like right after that, just about every single package coming
into the U.S. is now gone over with a fine tooth comb.

I had ordered stuff before September 11, 2001 and did not
have to pay any customs fees either. But not anymore.

What was the price of the hat in american dollars?

Well I got my Safari before 9/11, but my Federation After 9/11...Either way, it wouldn't have gone into the USA because I live in Canada :)

Sorry, my bad

You guys do pay some sky high rates there! Could you have
a friend, say that lives in the U.S. order the jacket for you, and
then have them send it to you, and label it as a "gift" so you
would not have to pay all the extra taxes and fees?
