Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
Hello Everyone!
On the last week, I discovered that Screen Used has sold his Raiders hat. I'm disapointed by this new but I would like to know if anyone know who is this mysterious buyer, I need to know.
It's just a supositon but it will be funny if the buyer will be Lucasfilm to put this hat in the Exposition for the 30th Anniversary to Raiders but it's just a suposition.
Thanks!

Didn't he sell it like 6 months ago? I seem to recall a thread with pretty much this exact title.

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
Yeah, I know which hat you're referring to...
Quick search says Screen Used sold their Raiders gun last year. And a Indy4 Fedora was sold at auction last month too... Still could have sworn that this hat was sold... senile? Is there a date you found for the sale?

Pardon, I meant the Indy 4 hat was sold last year, not last month.^^^^

I'm surprised too. I can see now he wasn't attach to this item as much as I thought.fedoraiders wrote:To believe that I am the only one to be surprised by this new.
Mostly I'm surprised because it wasn't offered on sale before. At least not on his website.
I pressume he received an offer he couldn't refuse.
I've allways thought maybe Steve or LLS or Penman, someday could had pay a visit to Desi to analyse and see it in person, in order to unlock the secrets of this mythical fedora...

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
Jason, this is one of those times I'm afraid you'll have to live with your disappointment.
I'm not kidding...In the rarified air of these type collectables, buyers/collectors at this level do NOT want their names revealed by the sellers.
You would NOT believe what we had to go through to get access to that screen used Raiders stunt jacket back 'in the day' that the Expedition was based on, as well as Todd's Costumes', and to this day only one or two people know who the collector was.
Long story short, these are still just things that folks eventually get tired of and let go to other collectors. Nothing sacred about them. They're just rarer than the usual stuff we come across in our hobby.
Regards! Michaelson

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
If you think about it ,what is this hat realy ?
It's a poor quality 30 odd year old had that is probably past a re-block by even Steve or John!
If it wasn't for the fact it was used in Raiders no one would give a penny for it.

since its lost its original shape and you can't get the exact same felt. No help there. The ribbon is unlocked ( we have it ). The liner and sweatband is all we can learn from it.
I really don't thin it would unlock much bur would be nice to have taken a look at.

Just proof to me that the Raiders hat wasn't a high end hat.

Way to long of a list and I don't want to derail or high jack this thread.

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
No one is going to hang you, John. They didn't hang me. I went on a huge rant a few years ago about how the Raiders hat was actually a #### hat that just looked great on Ford. Most people agreed. If they didn't, no one would want to buy a super Raiders hat (i.e. AB, Penman).

And it just might at that. A private museum behind glass in under the correct lighting, but a museum nonetheless.
Cheers!

I had thought about doing this, too. I would love to see this hat in person. When he posted this hat, I got a kick out of it. It had such an immediate Raiders look to it. Completely different than the TOD auction hat that was discussed in these hollowed chambers in the past. I do believe this hat holds alot of useful information. I would, also, like to see Vic's and Terry's. Who knows? Maybe one day it might just happen.

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
I hope I see it in person someday. I just noticed something about Screenused's hat. The top front corner of the bow is tacked onto the ribbon a bit lower than the film hat, and there's a half inch sliver of ribbon showing above the bow in that corner that doesn't seem to be there in the film hat. I still think this is THE hat, but this is a difference. - Why didn't I, or anyone else, notice this before!?!?... - Remember that white background studio shot of Harrison cracking the whip over his head with a highly distressed hat on, with one corner of the bow loose? Maybe it's the same hat repaired? Was that the corner?

Maybe the ribbon has shifted out of place from handling and storage for all these years?

Re: Screen Used sold his Original Raiders hat
I see the little piece sticking out of the bottom. The piece located at the bottom between the front of the bow and the knot. If you zoom in on the screen grab Cairo hat, you can see the same piece. This proved to me that the bow was separate from the ribbon around the hat. A "two piece" configuration. At least on this Cairo hat.

Wouldn't that be a three piece? One for the wrap around, one for the bow, and one for the knot.

I have always found it funny that people call it two pieces when in fact it's three. If I make cairo hat I will use a three part treatment. All others I use the two parts treatment. I like the two part better, it's cleaner look to it.

Somewhere I once provided pics of Vic's stuff - the jacket and hat etc. They should be around wherever the admins store the pics. There used to be a pic of Terry's too.
Do you remember the year you post the pictures?
I'll try a search.

Liner is gone. But sweatband, and I meant to say maybe some specific details, like the exact (not approx.) measurement of the bow construction.
Also the brim, measurements and the precise transition on the dim. cut. Were the pinch is located, so how much turn really is....well, some freaky info for obsessive fans...
