Vintage Lid Makes a Fine Indy Fedora

Greetings all,
Well, I've wanted to do this for a while now but have always resisted the impulse. A few evenings ago, a wild impulse took over and a decided to take the plunge. I've owned this vintage fedora for many years now and always thought it would make a lovely Indy fedora. I have one regret in all of this and that is that I did not take progress photos as I went.
So to set the stage I'll start by telling you this lid originally had a very thin green ribbon on it and the brim was bound in the same. I'll take some photos of the trimmings later. So, after removing the bound edge and ribbon now all I needed was the appropriate replacement. I remembered that years before I had replaced a ribbon on a Federation I used to own and had kept it's original ribbon. Finding it rather easily I began the hand sewing process. Thankfully no blood was spilled.
So, without further delay here are some photos of the hat as it is today.

I'm fairly confident that this hat was made in the 1930's but I can't be 100% positive on that.

Nice hat. Good color. Nice work on the ribbon. A very Indy looking hat. I would love to study it up close. Great find. Wear it with pride.

That thing represents everything we got into Indy hats for in the first place.

Hi Bogey 1943,
Nice work on your vintage lid. I did a little research based on the inside image of your liner and found an interesting link for you. Seems your "lid" has quite a history.

Many thanks, tgalahad!!!
That is a wonderful link. I enjoyed viewing that. Bogie1943, you should be very proud. I particularly found interesting were the inside shots of the hats. Many interesting assembly techniques. Also loved the different liners in the display case.

That is some interesting information to have, thanks again tgalahad for taking the time to investigate. Thanks to everyone for the kind words!
I'll try to get some comparison shots done in the next few days. I have to say that the felt of this hat is as soft as the felt of my Adventurebilt. That's another reason I wanted to convert the vintage lid. I'm really happy with how it turned out that I didn't take a chunk out of it removing the bound edge haha.

Nice work on the ribbon/bow. Don't let Bink hear/read you changed a vintage fedora! You mentioned you didn't take any progress pictures, but do you have any 'before' pics? And, of course, how about a shot or two with the lid on your head.

Indiana Jeff

Too late!
Sorry, unless the trimmings and sweatband are literally falling apart, I have to admit that I prefer to leave vintage fedoras in good condition in their original state as they are harder to find and more expensive to score as time goes by. But it's your hat and only my opinion...

I'm with you, Bink. I'm fairly new to the hat game, but IMO there's too many sources for brand new hats to alter vintage ones.

I totally agree with you Bink. It took me literal years of occasional thought to alter this hat
I have at least a dozen vintage hats ranging from the 30's to the late 50's and thus far 99% remain as they have always been. Oh here are a couple comparison shots I took over the holiday. Cheers!
