ToD - Christy's adventurer? Help please.

Post by Kredepops »

I desperately want a Temple of Doom fedora for my Indy bust, but I just can't justify buying a Penman or AB that I can't wear myself - I wear a size 58 and the bust needs a size 61 because of the sculpted hair.

I was thinking about buying a Christy's Adventurer, looks great on pictures and the price is fair - I do feel that I need a bit of advice though.

So is a Christy's a good 'base' for a ToD fedora?

ToD - Christy's adventurer? Help please.

I don't have one but I've seen a couple and they look to be good value for money . They have been described as tapery - so on that basis it should do fine :)

In my opinion, the Christy's Adventurer is exactly what you are looking for. It may well be the best option - dollar for dollar - for a ToD hat currently available.

I'll echo Chewie. You'll have to trim the brim though unless you request that they do it.

It's funny how everyone thinks find a tapered hat and boom, you got the TOD hat down. It's not that simple. I think if it's just going to sit on the dummy, the I would say why not. Trim the brim 2 3/4 x 2 1/2

I see a very low crown on the main ToD hat, with a brim that is similar to the Raiders specs, the ones we see with smaller brims, there are those that don't appear to have much taper, in fact, most don't have a lot of taper. When compared to Raiders, sure, it ain't stove piped, but its still a nice hat with a great shape. And that suspension bridge hat could have come off the Raiders set. Still prefer that hat over any other hat in the series...after Raiders and CS...and the CS travel hat. :[

Nobody said that, least of all me. I found a somewhat taped hat that shares certain qualities with the ToD hat, and is well suited for the purpose at hand. I think if K had asked "Who can give me the best, most accurate ToD hat?" most replies would be different. I know mine would be. :D

I think most people here associate taper from shrinkage to ToD when that is a different type of taper. The type of taper in ToD was from the block and again, there really wasn't much. Most of them look better than the LC hat in my opinion. I think a lot of folks justify the shinkage taper on their fedoras by saying "Now its ToD." That is wrong. Its not everyone, clearly, Mike, but most guys here do think that way.

Will the Christy's serve the purpose intended for this thread? Of course. With the proper crease, it may look quite good. Some of these Christy's look good while other look like poopoo. But it will serve this purpose nicely.

Thanks guys!

And John - I know I'd buy one from you if the fedora was to sit on my head, I just couldn't stand having a Penman fedora that I couldn't wear myself :)

I'll post some pics when I get the Christy's :)

I agree. I really don't want my hats sitting on display. I want them worn and worn well.

Then you'll be glad to know that my own Penman lid has recently (and quickly) become one of my most well-worn hats. Still looks brand new, though!
