Should be good to go. But make sure to use Pecards on the fall after every time you use it, as that tends to dry out the quickest. I've found that keeping an eye on the end of the thong for dryness is a good idea too, as that, along with the fall, is the part of the whip that takes the most abuse. From what I've been told, the entire thong shouldn't need a coat of Pecards more than about once every 6 months, or maybe a little more frequently, depending on how dry the climate you live in is.
I highly recommend getting Paul Stenhouse's Whip Cracking and Maintainence video. It is hands-down something every whip owner should have. You can get the order info off his site:

Happy cracking!

Paul's DVD is a great one...it's got how to crack, whip care, etc. You definitely get your money's worth.

I notice that a brand new whip tends to dry out a little during shipment. A light dressing of conditioner throughout would be good. "Light dressing". Like Maryon said, keep the fall greased as much as you can. It gets the worst abuse. Happy cracking!

As I've found, and anyone here will tell you, it's just a matter of time and practice. I can only do 2 cracks successfully as of yet, so I just keep working on it. Once you get even 1 crack down, you'll find that it's a great form of stress relief, not to mention a whole lot of fun.

This last Saturday just marked my one year anniversary cracking whips. Before you know you'll be cracking 2 whips at the same time. Take it one crack at a time and before you know it, you'll know 5 cracks.

ITG,
Well for a one year anniv. you were giving those whitehides a good workout Sat. Keep it up and you'll be doing those figure 8's with two whips.
I enjoyed meeting you at the WE Whip Weekend IV, and thanks for test driving that mini Indy and the full sized 7 footer that I had with me. Woulda had a few more but they were sold as soon as I finished them.
Missed you on Sun for the contests. (I saw you practising on the spaghetti) Lot of fun and some serious whip-handling in the technical skills contest. Those guys can make their whips sing. We'll see you in the contests next year. I'm gonna take a note from Riz from Florida and use two whips I think for the speed contests. That guy was smokin'!! (And he wasn't even using the fire whips!)
Anyway, keep 'em cracking.

I presume it's a Joe Strain made Indy tho the post didn't say. If this is your real first lerning experience at whipcracking, I like to mention to a beginner that their motions need to be opposite of what they think. Let the whip do the work and not them. That is do a pretty quick up & back motion and when the whip thong is pointing directly behind you, throw it forward but not so quickly. Most people do the reverse. That is a half-hearted lift and then throwing the whip before it hardly gets past their head and then throwing it very very hard. That's when you get smacked around the shoulder, neck and head. Learning any new cracks should be done very slowly anyway. Once you get the cracks youcan increase the power as you would like. Keep your eyes focused ahead like on the horizon, not down on the ground. The cracks should be straight out in front of you. NEVER jerk back on any cracks.
Happy cracking!
by the way, I won a gold medal this weekend at the DFW Whip Weekend for technical whipcracking with two whips.
I also won a silver for 2nd fastest cutting 10 cups from a 14 foot line.
I missed winning the overall grand championship by 4 points.

Likewise! It was great meeting you as well. I really enjoyed that 7 footer and the mini Indy. Those whips were awesome. I was impressed with the way they handled.

Yeah, sorry about that. I even called Sebastian and told him I'd be heading out there soon and then I talked to my mom and she needed some help working on her new house. I hope I wasn't too missed. I would have liked to have seen it. I missed last year's Sunday competition as well.

You're telling me! Drew was cracking out the Barney song on his whip. I don't know what is more impressive: That he can crack out the tune or that he knows the tune (and the words).
We'll see you in the contests next year.
Most definitely.

I can only imagine!
Robert, congrats! I'm gonna see if I can get a rundown of the results on the Whip Enthusiast board.
