Expo leather question
About the goat: is it just dark brown? I've heard something about a seal brown too. What's the story? what about leather comparison pics?

Re: Expo leather question
The Expo goat comes in two flavors; dark brown and seal chrome goat. There are lots of posts on the subject. I think in my plant tour of FS, I included pictures of both goats.IndianaCollins wrote:About the goat: is it just dark brown? I've heard something about a seal brown too. Here it is:

Caution the comparison photo used flash photography. So the seal brown was not accurate in the comparison shot. But there a number of others that posted their pictures. You might want to search the board.

For those interested in the 'aging' aspect of the two....I have the dark brown chrome tanned goat, and it looks as good as the day I got it years ago. I have had Mike's seal brown goat in hand recently, and it's actually aging very nicely, so if you're into having your jacket show it's age with, uh, age, the seal is the ONLY to fly. If you're not into that scene, the dark brown chrome is definitely the way to go. Regards. Michaelson

I recently received a few swatches so I could compare the darkness of the Vintage and Dark Vintage cowhides with the "Dark Seal Goatskin." That's what Ehren called it and that's the typed label on the swatch. Anyway, the dark seal is soooo dark! And as for distressing, you can look at each swatch sideways for a cross section and see that the goat is dyed through and through.Michaelson wrote:For those interested in the 'aging' aspect of the two....I have the dark brown chrome tanned goat, and it looks as good as the day I got it years ago. Since it was a sample, I scratched each one with a fingernail and also a knife. The goatskin just looked back at me and laughed. Man, that is one tough skin. Of course the cowhide received marks from the scratching and thus, revealed a lighter color from underneath.
IndianaCollins, feel free to call their 800 number and request any of the swatches of leather you want. It's free and it may help you to look, feel, and smell the leathers that interest you.
