Indy Fandom & Whip Cracking Worldwide

Post by IndianaBravo »

Hi all!

I wanted to start a thread that would showcase Indy fans from around the world. I am aware, of course, that here on COW we have members from all over the World. My idea is for COW members from around the world to let everyone see their country’s respective Indy fan sites, and to give us a peek into how people around the World enjoy this hobby of ours. Of course the web pages are in the respective languages, but nevertheless I thought It would be fun if we could check them out.

Since I started this , I’ll begin. I am based out of Spain and the Indy fan site here (the only one, I might add) is http://www.indianajones.es/. Most of the members are from Spain , but we do also have a strong international presence in the way of members from South and Central America. There are local chapters in most of the major cities here in Spain. We have interviewed David Morgan not too long ago, with the inestimable help of Will. Here is the link: http://www.indianajones.es/entrevistas/davidmorgan.php Just like in COW, we have discussion threads pertaining to every aspect of the Gear. People here seem to be really into the Hat. I have sorta been the catalyst of getting people here into the wonderful world of whip cracking. Before that, nobody in the group really had any idea about whips, much less own one. I modestly showed them my Strains, Bernardo, Midlands etc… one day in the park , and they instantly became addicts. I have unwittingly become “the whip guy” here, and I have been busy showing the group basic cracks , referring them to Adam’s videos, and generally spreading the “gospel”. Now we get together every couple of weeks, weather, permitting and go to a local park and practice. Here is a short video:

Finally here is a group shot.
Image
That’s me second from the left. We get more people every time we get together. After cracking, we go for a cerveza and we even go out to eat once in a while. BTW all of the whips in the group shot are Todd´s whips!. My buddies here wanted to try out the whole whip cracking thing before investing more $ in something better. I am happy to say that most of them are already saving their Euros for something higher scale.

Well, that is what is going on here in Spain. I would encourage other COW members with an international background to do something similar and give us a peek into their particular Indy fan sites, get-togethers etc…

Tally HO!

Great pic! I wish there were other Indy fans here in my country... but nope. Nada!

I have seen the occasional toy collector with some Indy toys (and one with almost all the Indy toys released), but never a gear head.

There is a polish whip forum - www.whips.pl and we managed to meet two times, in 2009 and 2010. Summits gathered together over 15 people, it was full-day fun with grill and beer, cracking a lot of whips and meeting guys from entire country. I hope we will organise summit next year with even greater amount of whipcrackers!
You can see pics here:

Following Darenhenrys lead with the bay cracking crew, I thought I would post a few shots of our group here in Spain. I am happy to report that we are growing in numbers and that our cracking sessions are usually followed by a few cold ones and some food.

Here is one of the guys cutting a leaf in two with his Midland whips roo hide 10 footer

Here goes a group shot of some of the whips:

..and yet another shot of whips, at rest while we sit and talk about our favorite subject. ;)

We usually set up some targets on some twine tied between two trees, although I am working on putting together something more akin to a target stand. Unfortunately the fall season brings lots of rain, so the whips rest for now.
Cheers!

Great pics!
We also have several gear forums here, and I think the recent count was around 200 members for one of the larger ones.
As far as whip cracking is concerned, some of us guys get together every month or two to practice :whip:

Thanks very much :TOH:
That's a Peters Bros. Indy straw hat. A must item for whip cracking during summer.

Hey Yuji,

Could you give me the URLs for the Japanese gear sites? I'd love to check 'em out and practice my Japanese. It's getting pretty rusty.

こんにちはShanghaiJack-san,

There is an Indy Gear community on the following SNS, but you need to register first.
http://mixi.jp/
I'll see if I can dig up a few more good sites.

英語でも日本語でも、心から興味あると”話す事”が分かるからでしょう? :TOH:

言葉って関係ないですね。

I don't think it matters what language you speak here, as long as you speak from the heart we all "speak the same language"...In Japanese, English, German, or anyother language...No? ;)

皆様、日本語の勉強してるだもんね!いい事だ!笑 :TOH:

Thanks for the photos Yuji! I don't have any to upload here from the last session...Next time I'll have to take my camera as well! :)

Same here, to a point....but since this is an English speaking, U.S. based site, let's try and keep to the the local lingo so everyone can participate. :TOH:

Thanks!
