The perfect place to carry a browning high power. The NRA is offering a concealed carry jacket that may look familiar to some of us here.

If only they would show a back view.

I bet the back of the jacket has gaps. OR no gaps, whatever will irritate the most people.

Hey I'd put up with gaps,d-rings,snaps,and a right hand zipper if I could have a Browning again :( .

Nice find :TOH:

It would be good if they had some better pictures all round. the one they have is a bit fuzzy.

The leather is distressed boar hide. I haven't seen that one before. Now if I could get them to embroider hakuna matata on the inside pocket. (It's close enough to warthog right?)

Hey, guys, let's keep the talk centered on the jacket itself, what the back might look like and the hide available and stay away from where/who can carry guns.

To help get back on track.....what is boar hide like?

We've gone through lamb, cow, goat and horse before a million times.

But what properties does boar have?

Never seen it offered anywhere before...is it because we normally EAT the skin of a pig.

ummmmm....pork rinds!!

Well, I find it a bit difficult to separate the two subjects, as considering the weight of a firearm to be carried, how does it affect the construction of the jacket?

Most firearms carried in an inside pocket have the tendency to pull that side of a jacket downward.

What did they do to counteract that extra weight to MAKE this jacket one for concealment? Just putting in that easy entry pocket won't correct the problem.

I don't think it's necessarily a pig.
boar (bôr, br)
n.
1.
a. An uncastrated male pig.
b. The adult male of any of several mammals, such as the beaver, raccoon, or guinea pig.
2. The wild boar.
beaver? thought they could only make a hat out of them...
raccoon? hmmm

but a pig? I rather eat them than wear them!

I don't know. We're slowly being overun by feral wild pig in the U. S., so an outlet for making jackets out of their tough hides may help erradicate some of the problem.

It would be a very tough wearing leather, that's for sure!

Make them worth 'harvesting', and it will help control the wild pig population.

Why eat AND wear them? ;)

Is it me, or does it look like there might be a seam around the body, just above the pockets? This would help alleviate any weight problems do to the gun.

Could be, bink. It would seem to help distribute the weight all the way around the waist, wouldn't it? :-k

Inside, you’ll find two deep, leather trimmed concealment pockets with snap closures. These pockets are reinforced and outfitted with hook-and-loop panels to accept the included, repositionable elastic holster. The holster’s simple, yet effective design is ideal for small to medium-sized handguns.
Sounds like there's some internal structure to the jacket that will carry the weight to prevent the jacket from sagging.

Indiana Jeff

I've always had problems slipping a gun into an inside jacket pocket. The jacket would sag to one side, especially if the gun was large. Obviously it wasn't as big a problem with a smaller gun. Plus the wear and tear on the pocket can just ruin a nice jacket.

Anyhow this is the back of the concealed carry jacket. It looks to be one of those things that are close and for some, close enough, but not exact.

That looks like a nice all around Indy style jacket, and without advertising itself to be one no less. Any one else think it resembles a Wings jacket? It says it's imported...I wonder if the imported Wings jackets and this one have the same maker? I'm looking, specifically, at the pockets - size and placement - and collar.

Edited to add that I'm referring to the Hero with the low yoke seam and pockets placed rather far away from the zipper/storm flap area.

Looks like that other jacket someone posted some months back. There was one on Amazon and it was like $150. Anyone remember what I'm talking about?

I recall everyone dismissed it because it had a seam along the front.

I was thinking of the exact same jacket.
Sportsman's Guide also sells this one too....(but without the concealment pockets)

What is Napa leather, anyways? (Is it latin for "cheap looking"?)

For those who just LOVE Wiki... ;)
Nappa leather or Napa leather is a full-grain leather, typically dyed, made from unsplit kid-, lamb- or sheep-skin by tanning with salts of chromium or aluminium sulfate, and noted for softness and durability. It is often used in high-quality leather products such as high-end furniture and accessories such as wallets and luggage. One example would be interiors of luxury vehicles.

If this is true, why is it I always see "Napa" used in the description of cheap jackets?

Ah, well, if that is the same jacket, I guess the resemblance to a Wings jacket isn't as great as I thought. And yeah, that seam in the front is rather odd looking. Strange place for one.

I had a pig skin jacket as a kid. The one I had was suede. I had a Sportsman Guide Indy jacket, which also was suede, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was pig skin (not the same jacket as the Sportsman Guide mention above). Anyways, I've outgrown suede :)

I have a leather concealment vest from Coronado Leather. If this jacket is constructed like my vest, it will have a layer of ballistic nylon between the leather and the liner to help prevent printing and to help distribute the weight. However, these type of garments are meant to be worn either partially or fully zipped or buttoned in order to keep the handgun side from sagging. Even with my smallest handgun, my vest will sag if it is not buttoned up.

I thought it said it had two pockets...a gun in the opposite pocket would counter the first. O:) :H:

Even if it does you would still need to put enough weight on the opposite side to counter balance the weight of the gun. You could put a few extra magazines, but that would probably be quite a few depending on the type on gun and the capacity and weight of the mags

Probaly of you got it a size larger. This isn't like wearing a shoulder rig with a sport coat over it. Since the holster is part of he garment it is more likely to print the larger the gun gets. I tried my 1911 in my vest and it prints. I tried on a leather concealment jacket at a shop one time and put a 1911 in the side pocket holster and it printed until I went a size up. Most concealment garments are designed for smaller handguns.

I would say "slowly" is a modest term for what some consider to be an explosion.

"Feral hogs are the most prolific large, wild mammal in North America.
With adequate nutrition, a feral hog population can double in 4 months.
Breeding occurs throughout the year when conditions are favorable, and seasonally
when food supply and nutrient quality vary. Females begin breeding
at about 8 to 10 months old, or as young as 6 months if food is abundant.
Under favorable conditions, sows can produce two litters every 12 to 15
months, with an average of four to eight piglets per litter and a sex ratio of
1:1. Younger sows tend to have smaller litters, while an older sow may have
as many as 10 to 13 piglets. Piglets are weaned in 2 to 3 months. Drought
and food shortages can delay breeding and reduce the number of piglets
born, but feral hog populations recover quickly when conditions improve".

Yep, as far as balance, you could have a pistol on one side and mags on the other, or two pistols/revolvers, or whatever for balance. (Ex. Glock 17 on one side, Taurus 608 on the other...if the Taurus fits). Although you can't carry two in a few states such as NM.

And I also seem to recall someone got hold of high-res pics that showed it to be a seam?

I got my NRA catalog today, noticed this jacket, and got all excited that I had something new to post about Indy jackets......shoulda known there'd already be a thread on it here! Not much gets by this crew. Anyway, here's the latest link on the jacket, showing the back side. It really does look like a copy of Indy's, just minus the cinch straps. I'd say it'd make a pretty good "good enough" jacket, except for the fact that for $20 more you can get a Todd's.

Without any further ado...
