Also saw this yesterday. Too bad they didn't cover the small custom shops; but hey, at least they talked about hats! The skinny brim fedoras seem to be getting all the publicity.

Thanks to TV shows like Mad Men, and the like...the skinny brim hat is all these 'kids' know right now.

Yeah, if someone got a proper fedora on that Timberlake fella the kids would be lining up.
Of course, that would mess with all of our hatters lead times so better they stay in their stingy hats.

I like the idea of hats becoming more mainstream, it'll kind of ease the 'norms' into getting used to seeing a 'real' hat being worn without making snide comments.

Heck, I was watching a new 'House Hunters' last night on HGTV, and a couple from Chicago were looking for a vacation home in Central America.

The man wore two VERY nicely made straw stingy brims during the program, and I mean nicely lined and all (not Wal-Mart wannbes) throughout the entire show. Quality through out, as I was lookng at his hat in the close ups. (man, that's kinda sad, when you think about it. )

Anyway, it was nice to see.

I've found that I watch TV shows for different reasons now. I love shows like Poirot and Jeeves & Wooster for the vintage outfits and, of course, the lids.

I was just down at my local Hat store (http://www.thehatco.com/), and was told by the owner that the sales of Stetson fedoras is booming, especially the new Whippet. He said he cant keep them in stock.

I've been noticing alot more hats being worn in my area, and not just the cheap-o Walmart/Target stingy brim ones either (although those are still the most common).

Lately, instead of getting blank stares and those behind-the-back snickers when I wear my hats, I've actually been getting compliments!

I guess if bell-bottom cords can make a comeback, anything is possible. (thank GOD that was a short lived trend!!)

I have never gotten a snide remark from ANYONE. I frequently get compliments on my hats. I had a gentleman in the grocery store tell me he had not seen such a fine hat since the 40's and asked where I got it (penmanhats.com, which he wrote down). Kids sometimes say "you look like Indiana Jones" to which I reply, "Thank you for such a fine compliment."

A little secret: women love the Indy style hat. They like a guy who is secure enough to clap one on his head and not give a rat's patoot what people think. It's the anti-backwards-baseball-cap.
