Not SA, but rather "in the spirit of...". I like the look. Is there a pragmatic reason for the riveted leather strip on the rear or is it just a nuisance embellishment? I have seen other boots w/ a similar feature.

Agreed. I've had a pair for about four years & gone thru two new sets of soles.

WHOA. I've been desperately in need of a new pair of boots but haven't bought any because nothing's caught my eye (and these days, a new pair of Aldens is out of my price range). I always thought those Iron Works boots were nice, but not
quite what I was looking for. But these? Dang, I think I may have found my new boots. Good find!

Oh yeah, and my best guess for that extra strip of leather on the back (which I like just because I think it looks pretty sweet!) would be for extra reinforcement? I think it's called a "kick" area or something, but when a lot of people take of their boots with their feet, they grip that part of the boot with their other foot to anchor it down (rather than grabbing a muddy boot with their hand). Is that making sense? I'm not feeling super coherent today. Anyway, yeah, I've seen a lot of boots with different ways to reinforce that back outside area, and that would be my guess for the extra strip on this boot. Though I could be wrong.

Ya' know. now that I think of it, I had a pair of cowboy boots that I wore a HOLE in the left one after six years of working a clutch. maybe there IS a pragmatic reason after all.

How do you like them? Are they comfortable?
I have never purchased shoes online before or from LLBean. Are the sizes true to the size you normally wear?
Thanks in advance!

I second that motion!! I've had mine for three years and two sets of soles. I bought a second pair just in case they stop making them...
These boots are comfy, sturdy, and will take an excellent shine with Kiwi IF---first thing you do when you get them, before dirtying them up, give them a good going-over with Pecards. It really seals off this otherwise "distressed" or just plain dry-looking leather. After that the kiwi goes on great.
These are awesome boots for the price, and if you don't like them, LL Bean has an unconditional satisfaction guarantee or your money back. An excellent deal that I cannot recommend highly enough.
PS--These are indeed true to size. I wear an 8 with these and an 8 with everything else. However, with these I initially ordered the normal width but found them too narrow for thick wool socks, so I went with the wide and have never looked back. Your mileage may vary...
