Harrison Ford signed Indiana Jones fedora?

Post by DarkAvenger »

See Julien's Legends (#5), Lot 158 (https://www.julienslive.com/view-auctio ... /lot/1814/).

Is this yet another of the Swales replica hats made in the late 80s (see the Club Obi-Wan topic 'TOD Screen Fedora for auction', posted 10 Nov 2008 in relation to the ToD fedora in the Profiles in History Hollywood Auction 33, 11 Dec 2008) or even the 'exact same' hat from that PiH auction? I believe that hat never sold. Could it be the owner has now tried to auction that same hat in the Julien's auction?

From the auction description:
"... the hats for the Indiana Jones films were altered slightly with a puddled crown..."
'Puddled crown'? What does THAT mean? :-s

I see a tear drop bash, which we know is wrong, so what else is odd about this offering?

Interesting discovery! Thank you!

I hope one of our hatmakers sees this.

If you don't mind, I'm going to move this from the prop section to the hat section, with a ghost link from there so you can find it.

Should draw some discussion. :TOH:

How come I feel like someone is about to take my shoes?

Puddles crown. Could be someone got their terms wrong. I never heard of that. In the photo is a soft or sloppy c-crown. I kinda remember all the Indy hats being a center dent but could be wrong. :-k

I think this could be a old HJ that the guy put the wrong crease into that Ford signed. At the very least the guy is misleading just a little. Is he claiming this a SCreen Used hat?

I just don't like the way the whole thing is making me feel.

John

P.s. Boy have I been using a lot of smiley icon today. :)

Since I've started paying attention to the details of the hat this very short moment of the rafting sequence has bugged me...maybe it's this hat? :-k

Interestingly enough, the "puddled crown" term comes from the letter of authenticity, which is from an HJ employee.

Absolutely. I've had ribbons turn everything but dirty white from fading over the years due to age, use and sun.

Considering this hat dates back to 1984, that ribbon has held it's color pretty well!

The first hat I recieved from HJ in 1985 had the "C" crease. The ribbon was 1 1/4" so back it went and Richard Swales sent it back with the correct 39mm ribbon. I requested all future orders be sent un-bashed. One thing to beware of with "screen used" items is if if the right person says it's real, it's real! Example-The Bapty gun that was sold by them has the wrong front sight and un-repaired grips.

With respect, everyone has missed the point...
Seems like Indy's in a HUGE puddle right there…

I read it as though this hat were made for the production, but never made it to the film set for whatever reason. Therefore, it has been in this fellow's possession since. I guess...
