TN Raiders Pleat Gap from "Wings Raiders w/Pics thread"

So as requested here is my TN Raiders jacket's back pleats with little to no gap between the seams. The question arose when the new Wings Raiders jacket had a small gap between the shoulder and the pleated back panel. I had mentioned there was no gap on my TN jacket like the Cooper pattern Wings jacket.

You can see that there is a fold in the pleat towards the top of the yoke, that is where the pleat is always open and it creates a weird fold. So that part is open, but the rest is usually pretty flush and how it should be. Now, this isn't a major issue or anything, or any means of a knock against the TN jackets, its just part of the custom jacket, little one offs. When the jacket is off the shoulders, you can't notice at all, but for the time its worn on the shoulders it bulges out. It definitely doesn't look like the film jacket's behavior on screen or the Wings Raiders pleat action. I always thought it was just my body as I have quite the arch in my spine (not a normal arch) and the way it hung of me if I was trying to stand completely straight and with proper posture would make it do that.

Am I unhappy with this, heck no! It could get fixed when my jacket is sent in for some adjustments, so we'll see what Riley can do for it. If nothing really could be done, I'm not too concerned at all with it. Its been like that for almost a year, with no problem. My problem is that I'm a SA nut, and now with this little detail (That shouldn't really matter) is known to me, I'll probably go insane until its adjusted  I have the same feeling when I see YJ's latest TN Raiders (really had to hold back in ordering one in that leather with some small adjustments to my sizing), and now with the calf skin as THE leather on the hero jacket (that's why I'm down for a calf in the wings with the special COW Raiders jacket). I'm not unhappy, just an itch to make the adjustment to make it more accurate. Does that even make sense? :-k

It also explains, not just with your jacket but others like it, that without that little gap, why the action pleats eventually 'blow out'. Instead of hanging straight, they're forced outward by being pulled toward the shoulder seam. Gravity eventually has its way.

That's the curse of wanting to be 'SA'. ;)

Personally I think you have a nice jacket as is. Just enjoy and get it included in the NEXT iteration when you order a replacement or 'stablemate' to go with the one you have!

Thanks Michaelson, it is a great jacket. The stablemate, that'll be a tough one on which to purchase...Surrogates or another Raiders from Riley... :-k

This is why I like the gap. It seriously cuts down on the pleat blow-out. Yolk position also factors in, I think. But hey, how often do you really see it yourself, right?

Thankyou!!!! I always wondered why one side of my wested sticks out and the other doesn't. I noticed that I have the gap on one side, but not on the side that sticks out. Always baffled me that one.

May I make a suggestion? Surrogates.

You'll be happier, as though you have the little gap 'situation', it ain't THAT big a deal on that jacket, and at least you'll have something you can rotate to.

It's nice to have another style jacket hanging in your closet to fit a change of mood. Trust me on this.

As my youngest daughter always likes to write..."Just saying...." ;)

Yep. Now you know why. Gravity ain't our friend. I realize that every day I lean over to tie my shoes. :(

Michaelson, the Surrogates jacket is more or less the next choice, just wasn't sure if I would order another Raiders jacket. I love the old school look of the Surrogates jacket, and the plaid lining is awesome. Hopefully the Wings Raiders COW jacket will be the end all of my Raiders jackets; that way I'll have a TN from Tony and a Raiders from Sarge/Cooper.

I'd take that Esquire over a jacket, too! ;) I do remember snapping pics of you in the orange surrogates jacket. ;)

You lucky dog! What year is your Esquire? (Sorry, I'm a total guitar geek!)
