Help! Whip fell apart!

I know I've seen some posts on the subject a ways back, but I can't seem to find them now.

The end of my bullwhip has come untied. Can someone suggest how to re-tie it? Nice and tight, so it doesn't come undone again. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks kinda like it broke off. I'm gonna leave some of the experienced ones out there to answer this one...looks pretty serious. I am trying to figure out your cracker...is it shredded up?

Looks like you have a rotary phone there...sweet!

Well, it didn't break. It was only tied on with a knot. But it was a whip my brother in law picked up in Cancun, so I'm not expecting the highest quality.

The popper is new, I just got it today (and may have been the cause of the untying.) It is from a lunge whip. It's resin-coated, and frayed at the end. It worked fine for the time being.

Oh. And the rotary phone is a $5 thrift store find. Kind of neat, but a bit of a pain.

Am I seeing/reading this right that the fall hitch came untied?

I believe that's what the parts are called. The piece on the left used to be tied to the piece on the right. The four ends on the right piece have not come unbraided. That's how they were. The left piece was tied around them to prevent them from unbraiding.

Does that make it any clearer? Sorry I'm not sure of the terms. It's the best I can do.

Well......

Some folks have tutorials on how to retie fall hitches. Morgan has one online that you might be able to follow. www.davidmorgan.com You'll have to surf around the site to find it. Or, send it off to one of the many whipmakers on this forum for repair.
I'm not going to take the time to explain how to do this, since it's impossible to follow verbiage on how to tie a knot, and I probably can't explain it very well in words. In this case, a series of knots, without some pictures to assist in the explanation would be hard to follow. Ron Edwards has a book on whipmaking How to Make Whips that might help you out, too.

Very cool, thanks. I knew it would not be an easy answer, as describing a knot isn't easy. I will check out the David Morgan site. Also, there are some feed stores up here that sell whips. I can look at those for reference.

pschtyckque, where are you located? If you can't find a book describing it (the Edwards book that Paul mentioned is excellent!) you might be able to find someone close to you who is willing to show you how to tie it.

Guys. I have several links at the Indygear site. Look under whip links. There is a section of urls that show how to repair a fall.

Sergei,

I knew there were other places I was forgetting!!! Thanks for the reminder. That's my 'other folks have online resources' placeholder.

Bernie,

Your site is the best whip resource center on the web. Nobody else comes close to having the high caliber of content you provide. Great job!

Thanks for the tips guys. I will check them out. I think that the saddle maker near my house may be able to repair it if I am unsuccessful.

Success!!

The video clip was exactly what I needed! Not only did I realize that the fall was on backwards (d'oh!) but that the knot in the middle of it wasn't really supposed to be there (told you I was new. ;) )!

I just retied the fall and popper, and did a few test cracks. The neighbors must really hate me now! :D

Thanks for all your help guys!
