Greetings programs.

I'm in the process of getting together my measurements for a Raiders style jacket from Magnoli. The jacket I'm using to base the new meaurements on is my 10 plus year-old Wested cowhide. I've noticed that the length of the front and back differs some--the back being about 2 inches sorter than the front. I'm wondering if this is normal for the Raiders jacket? For those of you with one--doesn't matter the vendor--can you tell me if yours is a bit longer in the front?

My old Wested has never fit quite right in the collar, so I'm really trying hard to get the measurements perfect for my new jacket. I'm not interested in screen accuracy this time. My new jacket is going to be a Raiders jacket with the TOD collar stand in pre-distressed goatskin.

Hi -- I seem to recall from past discussions that it was preferred top have one's Wested a couple of inches longer on the front in order to avoid the "ride up" issue. Othrs who know this issue better than I will likely chime in. Cheers -- Feng

Normally the back is longer by 1 to 2 inches. My Wested is 26.5 in the back and 25 in front.

The film jackt is supposed to be the same length for both (23 inches) which makes it sit in that peculiar way.

Some 1950's half-belts are longer in front (see the Aero leather website)

If you have a veranda over the tool shed (ie if you have a big stomach) shorter in front is going to look bad as it will ride up and look even shorter.

In my personal experience, the best looking jackets are either even or slightly longer in front. Everybody is built differently, so going screen accurate specs won't always (and rarely do) result in screen accurate appearance upon wearing. Every vendor does it their own way, and some even vary (Wested will add length to the front, if they remember, and you fully custom guys will do what you want).

My advice would be to start with your Wested measurements and alter them to where you think the front and back should be on you, in order to look like they do on Ford. Pull out the DVD and find a good spot to pause, put on the gear, the whole 9 yards. It's what I did, I don't regret it. The results may differ from the film jackets, but you'll be happier looking good, in the long run.
