Hat blocks questions-Fedora/Pyro?

Post by Dalexs »

This is part of an estate sale going on over at ebay. Is this a useful looking block?
They say it is a size 7 3/8.

I hestitate to post an ebay link direct, but it is easily found.

There seems to be quite a large collection that will be showing up over the next few days.

My thoughts are that there is too much taper on the front and back. It'll be difficult if not impossible to get it out when you block.

Another thought is the block your size? You will need your size or one bigger to really make it work because of the sweatband.

You are close but I would save and continue looking.

But those are just my thoughts....

Looks like a good canidate for a little modification. So far, I have not found what I considered to be a true Raideresque on ebay. I don't think that they make em'. Most blocks just have too much taper on the sides. You can live with some taper on the front and back, because when you bash the top, the taper straightens out. In fact, most blocks have the front/back taper, even if the sides are straight. But, some blocks just have way too much. I never tried the larger size to use to reblock with the sweatband still installed. Seems like you would get a bulge where the sweatband is, and the hat would still be a size large on the top side. regards, Fedora
